ALVA, OKLAHOMA- The Ranger Softball team concluded their season Saturday afternoon with a thrilling come from behind victory over Southern Arkansas on senior day. Northwestern used two three run innings to help carry to an 8-7 victory after a go-ahead home run from Jaci Oakley for the win.
Rangers with the win finish the season a 14-33-1 overall on the year for the most wins since the 2018 season.
Abby DeTar got things started drawing a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first. She was moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt before Mackenzie Adams ripped a single to left field scoring the game's first run and a 1-0 Ranger lead.
The Muleriders however were ready to answer as they responded with four runs in the second inning to take their first lead of the game. After a single and a walk started the rally before a double by Lee gave Southern Arkansas a 2-1 lead over the Rangers. Dyson then followed with a 2-RBI double to take a 4-1 lead through their half of the second.
Southern Arkansas' lead did not last long as the Rangers jumped right back in the bottom of the second with a three spot to tie the game at 4-4 through two innings. Jayden Solberg led the inning off with a single before a DeTar RBI double made the game 4-2 with second and third. Lindsey McElory followed with a 2-RBI double to tie the game at four.
Howell threw her second scoreless inning out of the first three before the Mulerider new pitcher in Thornhill matched the scoreless inning. The game remained 4-4 through the fourth before Southern Arkansas regained the lead in the fifth.
Southern Arkansas started the inning with three straight singles with the third one from Murphy to push across one run before a Lee ground out scored the sixth and the Muleriders took a 6-4 lead.
McElroy answered back leading off the fifth with a double before Howell cleared the bases with a two-run blast to right center field to tie the game at 6-6. Morgan La Neve then followed with her third home run in as many games, this one a solo shot to take a 7-6 lead late in the fifth inning for the Rangers.
Southern Arkansas got a run back following a one out walk leading to an RBI double to tie the game at 7-7.
Northwestern continued to score late in the game as a home run by Jaci Oakley pushed the Rangers in front for one final time with an 8-7 lead through six innings. Howell closed the door in the seventh inning after working around a one out double with a ground out back to the circle for the final out.
Before the Rangers victory Northwestern was able to recognize the seven seniors before the game in Victoria Vasquez, Hannah Scoggin, Abby DeTar, Morgan La Neve, Jayden Solberg, Kailin Lian, and Lindsey McElroy.
