Rangers Complete Comeback to Sweep Season Series Over the Bulldogs

WEATHERFORD, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State overcame a five run deficit early to comeback and complete the season sweep over the Bulldogs. The Rangers used a five run fifth inning and six run seventh inning to pull off the 13-7 victory. 
 

The win improves the Rangers record to 13-20-1 on the season with a 7-14 conference record. The win marks the Rangers first season sweep over Southwestern in Softball dating back to the 2001 season. Northwestern has now won four straight games over the Bulldogs. 
 

Abby DeTar led the team in hits, runs, and RBIs with four in each statistic. Hannah Howell had three hits with 2-RBIs, as Allison Zanca had three hits and three RBI in the win. Jaci Oakley had a two-RBI day. 
 

The Rangers used three pitchers in the win as Howell started the game with the ball before Hannah Scoggin threw four innings in relief and Allie Hufford finished the final 1.2 innings striking out the side to end the game and earn the win. 
 

The first inning started well offensively for both teams as the Rangers opened the scoring as DeTar led the game off with a single before being hit home by Howell for an RBI single scoring DeTar for the early 1-0 lead. 
 

Southwestern answered back in their half of the inning after a leadoff single by Rahon she would come around to score later in the inning on a Barkley hit in play forcing a fielding error for the games first run. Rahon later came around to score on a wild pitch for a 2-1 lead, their first of the game. Carmo added more with an RBI single to right center before the fourth run of the inning came around to score for a 4-1 lead. 
 

Lee started the second inning with a single before stealing second and coming around to score on a 2-RBI double by Wadley for a 6-1 lead over the Rangers through two innings. 
 

In the third inning following a Lindsey McElroy double, setting up second and third, Howell followed with a single back up the middle scoring DeTar cutting the deficit to 6-2. The two teams traded zeros in the fourth before the Rangers had their first of two big innings to start the comeback. 
 

DeTar led the inning off with a triple before a McElroy hit by pitch and Howell walk loaded the bases with nobody out. Mackenzie Adams followed with a walk for an RBI and cutting the deficit to three. Zanca followed with a double to center field, scoring Howell and Jocelyn Long to cut the Northwestern deficit to 6-5.  Jaci Oakley followed with a 2- RBI double to right center for a 7-6 lead for the Rangers scoring six unanswered runs. 
 

The game remained 7-6 in favor of the Rangers before the Bulldogs answered back in the sixth with a run off a walk and a wild pitch before Simmons reached on an error scoring Franklin to tie the game.
 

In the seventh inning Northwestern struck again to regain the lead. Zanca, Hufford, and Oakley started the inning with three straight singles to load the bases with nobody out. A Genesis Rodriguez RBI single regained the lead for the Rangers at 8-7. With the bases loaded DeTar followed with a grand slam ripped to left field to push the Rangers lead to 12-7. Three straight singles including an RBI single pushed across the sixth run of the inning for a 13-7 victory. Hufford struck out three straight Bulldog hitters to quickly retire the side in order for a 13-7 victory over Southwestern.
 

Northwestern will return home for a three game home series against Oklahoma Baptist this weekend with a single game Friday at 5:00 PM with a doubleheader following Saturday at Noon and 2:00 PM.
