ALVA, Oklahoma - The Ranger Football team hosted Henderson State for the 2022 home opener Saturday evening for the second game of the season. Henderson State powered through a strong first half of 35 points to take momentum into the break before closing out the victory over the Rangers.
Northwestern falls to 0-2 on the season with Henderson State improving to 2-0.
Tanner Clarkson finished the game with 358 passing yards along with four touchdowns in the loss. He found two key connections with Travis Romar going for 131 yards including three touchdowns. Torrence Stevens was the second Ranger receiver over 100 yards while catching a touchdown pass.
Henderson State opened the scoring early in the 1st quarter after forcing a turnover off a Tanner Clarkson interception. The Reddies used the ground to put the first score on the board and take a 7-0 lead. The Rangers though were ready to bounce back as they quickly answered the Reddies touchdown to tie the game at an even 7-7 following a 49 yard touchdown pass from Clarkson to Travis Romar.
Henderson State answered back though with a passing touchdown with eight left in the opening quarter to take a 14-7 lead before getting the ball back and scoring in the final minute to carry a 21-7 lead over the Rangers into the second quarter.
Northwestern struck back though on an explosive 60 yard touchdown pass from Clarkson to Romar bringing the Rangers back within a touchdown. Henderson State then matched their end of the 1st quarter with two late scores to take a 35-14 lead into halftime.
The Reddies opened the second half with the ball and capitalized with a rushing touchdown for their third straight taking a 42-21 lead. Isaiah Haro found the endzone off a pass from Clarkson before the Ranger quarterback found Romar for a third time Saturday evening.
Henderson State closed out the win on a two-point conversion off a blocked extra point as the Reddies topped the Rangers 51-27 Saturday evening.
Northwestern will play at home again September 17th with a 6:00 PM kickoff against Oklahoma Baptist.
