Box Score Alva, Oklahoma - Northwestern Volleyball opened up their first conference match against Southern Nazarene and swept the Crimson Storm 3-0. Addison Wimmer led with 19 kills and Cameron Lobb led with 27 assists. Libero Andrea Coady collected 23 digs followed closely by Tarra Parks with 18.
The win improves the Rangers to 8-4 on the season with a 1-0 record in conference play. Southern Nazarene drops to 5-7 on the year and 1-1 in GAC play.
Set One:
The Rangers came out swinging in the first set taking an early 6-1 lead and forcing Southern Nazarene into a timeout. Addison Wimmer and Carmae Jones both contributed a kill each to continue the forward momentum. The Crimson Storm responded with an ace serve to close the gap 14-10 on Northwestern. Wimmer and Russell contributed a kill each. Back to back kills from Tarra Parks kept the Rangers ahead 19-16 going into the final set points. Southern Nazarene responded with another ace. Both teams battled point for point eventually coming to a stalemate at 24-24. Kills from setter Cameron Lobb and Parks ensure the Ranger's opening set victory 27-25.
Set Two:
The Rangers repeated the first set by starting off with an early 6-1 lead. The Crimson Storm responded with a 5-0 run of their own to tie the game 6-6 and force Northwestern into a timeout. The Rangers responded with a deep corner kill from Jones. Southern Nazarene fired back with a 3-0 run to take the lead 10-7. Ravyn Burns and Jones contributed a kill each to keep Northwestern in it. Parks and Wimmer also started to heat up, firing off kills and tying the game up 15-15. The Rangers capitalized on the Storm's errors stringing together a late 3-0 run and retaking the lead 18-15. Southern Nazarene responded with back to back kills. Parks contributed another kill to keep the score even at 20-20. Back to back kills from Wimmer allowed Northwestern to regain their lead 25-24 and extend the match. Parks fired off a kill and the team continued to capitalize on Southern Nazarene's errors to clinch the second set 31-29.
Set Three:
Following the trend of the previous sets the Rangers jumped to a 6-0 start forcing Southern Nazarene into a timeout. Strong blocking from Wimmer, Jones, and Russell contributed to Northwestern's lead. The Crimson Storm responded with strong kills from the outside and right side closing the gap on the Rangers 8-5. Russell broke their run with a line shot. Coady contributed an ace to keep the Northwestern momentum going. Southern Nazarene responded with a kill. The Rangers responded by going on 6-1 run, extending their lead 17-9. Lobb contributed an ace. Southern Nazarene responded with a 5-1 run to close the gap 20-15 on Northwestern. The Rangers continued to exhibit tough defense, forcing the Storm into errors. Back to back kills from Wimmer propelled her team to a sweeping victory over Southern Nazarene 25-18.
Northwestern Volleyball continues conference play at home this Saturday against the East Central Tigers. The first serve is set for 2:00 PM in the Percefull Fieldhouse.
