Rangers Open Texas Woman's Tournament Splitting Doubleheader

ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State volleyball opened their four match tournament in Denton Texas Friday splitting the doubleheader. After falling in the morning match to Eastern New Mexico 3-0, the Rangers bounced back with a 3-1 win over Midwestern State.

Match One:

Northwestern opened the day against Eastern New Mexico. The Greyhounds won a close first set over the Rangers 25-20 after the two teams went back and forth for most of the opening set. Eastern New Mexico took the next two sets with the second set 25-21 followed by the third set 25-9.

Stats were not able for game one check back at a later date once available.

Match Two:

In the second match Addison Wimmer led the Rangers with 22 kills and 15 digs for a double-double as one of two players along with Tarra Parks finishing with 11 kills and 16 digs. Cameron Lobb led the Rangers with 40 assists, with Andrea Coady leading the team with 19 digs.

Set 1:

The opening set started with teams trading points after Wimmer put the Rangers on the board with her first kill. The set was back and forth until 8-8 before Midwestern State took a 13-9 lead. Northwestern stormed back though following a kill by Wimmer and a black from Carmae Jones. Courtney Russell had a service ace to lock the set at 16-16 for the first time since it was tied at eight. A Ravyn Burns kill made it 19-19 to start a 7-0 run to close out the first set in favor of the Rangers 25-19. The run started by the Burns kill was one of five kills and a block by Wimmer to give Northwestern the opening set win.

Set 2: 

Northwestern jumped out first in the second set with a kill from Parks. Back-to-back kills from Wimmer had the Rangers in front 3-1. Much like the opening set the two teams battled back and forth as the set was locked at 8-8. A Tarra Parks kill put the Rangers back in front at 17-16. The set went extra following a service ace by Andrea Coady to even the score at 24-24. The set continued after the Rangers even the score at 26-26 following a service error. Northwestern rattled off the final two points on a service ace by Russell before a Midwestern attack error gave the Rangers a 28-26 victory.

Set 3: 

Midwestern State jumped out fast in the third set following a 3-3 draw. Midwestern fired off the next seven of eight points to open an 11-4 lead over the Rangers. MSU was able to maintain the lead keeping the seven point lead at 13-6. Following a timeout Midwestern had five straight points to take an 18-7 lead. Northwestern would get as close as eight points but MSU was able to pull away for a 25-13 set victory over the Rangers. 

Set 4:

Northwestern responded from set three by firing off five of the first six points in the set following two kills by Parks. Midwestern battled back to even the score at 5-5 following four straight points. The teams traded points as the score was locked at 13-13. Parks started the next Ranger run with a kill for a 3-0 run and 9-2 overall to open a 22-15 lead for the Red-and-Black. A kill by Wimmer followed by a service error set up the winning kill by Parks as the Rangers won 25-17 to take the match 3-1 overall over Midwestern State.

Northwestern will close out the Texas Woman's Tournament with two matches on Saturday with the first one starting at 1:00 PM against Texas Woman's before closing the tournament at 7:00 PM against Fort Hays State.
