ADA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State traveled to Ada Oklahoma Saturday for the fourth game of the season. East Central jumped out fast scoring the first points of the game before leading to a 31-3 win.
Northwestern falls to 0-4 on the season as East Central improves to 2-2 on the season.
East Central elected to receive in the opening quarter as the Tigers used a 14 play 63 yard drive to open the game that they were able to capitalize on ending with three points on a 35 yard field goal. The Rangers countered with a big opening play to the drive going 57 yards on a trick play to
Darian Gill. After the East Central's defense slowed the drive down by ending the Rangers opening drive with a blocked field goal to hold the Tiger 3-0 lead. As the defensive momentum took over the score would remain 3-0 at the end of the quarter.
The second quarter opened with the Tigers having an 11 play drive that the Ranger defense would shutdown forcing a Tiger punt.
Jaden Smith started the next drive with a solid 11 yard rush for a first down. The Tigers defense sacked Clarkson ending this drive as
Zack Stone was forced to punt it away. After three straight punts between the teams the Tigers offense was able to find the end zone for the first time with just under a minute to play in the half to take a 10-0 lead.
Northwestern started with the ball in the second half and went down the field capitalizing on a scoring opportunity. An 11 play drive led by
Tanner Clarkson following a big 18 yard run helped setup a future field goal by
Connor O'Neal to cut the deficit to 10-3. The Rangers capitalized on the momentum swing as
Dax Benway forced a fumble following a Tigers run that was recovered by
Alejandro Aaron as the Rangers took over on the 34-yard line. However East Central was able to answer back with a forced turnover as they picked off the pass from
Tanner Clarkson. The Tigers capitalized on the turnover as a 3 yard passing touchdown push their lead to 17-3. The score remained that way until early in the fourth quarter.
The first play in the fourth was a six yard rushing touchdown pushing the Tiger lead to 24-3. The Rangers tried to answer getting down into the red-zone on East Central's 11 but their defense forced a turnover on downs. The Tigers added a touchdown for a 34-3 lead which the score would remain for the final in the end.
Northwestern will return home on October 1st for a game against Ouachita Baptist on Family Day with kickoff set for 2:00 PM.
