ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Men's Basketball travels to Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford Oklahoma for a Monday night rivalry game. This will be the first meeting between the two rivals. Rangers look to build off of Saturday afternoon's victory over Oklahoma Baptist.
The Red-and-Black enters Monday night with a 7-7 overall record with a 3-7 Great American Conference mark. Southwestern Oklahoma State comes into the matchup with a 3-7 conference record and a 7-9 overall record.Â
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM against the Bulldogs in Weatherford following the conclusion of the Lady Rangers game. This will be the 23rd meeting between the two teams since 2013. Rangers lead 12-10 in the series after splitting the 2021-2022 season series. Southwestern won the meeting in Alva before Northwestern won a defensive battle in Weatherford 53-48. Bulldogs are 6-4 at home against the Rangers.
Rangers last time out won a close high scoring game against the Bison 96-88 the most Northwestern has scored in a conference game this season. Malik Parsons led the way for a balanced attack with his Northwestern career high of 36 points. He was joined in double figures by Shavaul Butters with 15 points and nine rebounds. Brian Free finished with 14 points and Jason Douglas-Stanley with 13 points.
Northwestern this season has been led by Parsons averaging 21.8 points per game this season scoring double figures in 12 of the 14 games. Brian Free averages 13.6 points per game for Northwestern as the other double digit scorer. Larry White is close with 9.6 per game. Parsons, and Free lead the team in assists with 45 and 41 respectively followed by Kennedy Milton with 30 assists.Â
Defensively for Northwestern Larry White leads the team with 20 steals along with 19 blocks for Northwestern. Butters leads the team overall in blocks with 23 of them in 14 games. Parsons leads the team in steals with 23 this season. Butters leads the team in rebounding with 7.3 per game followed by White and Parsons with 4 each. Â
Southwestern Oklahoma State:Â
Southwestern Oklahoma State enters Monday evening on a two game losing streak following losses to Oklahoma Baptist and an overtime loss to Southeastern. Bulldogs have dropped two straight at home in Pioneer Cellular Event Center as well but have an overall record of 4-5 in Weatherford.
Southwestern is led by Ben Smith as one of two players in double figures scoring as Smith leads the team with 14.2 points per game followed by Kamden Gipson with 12.8 points. Chris Braggs falls just shy at 9.9 points per game. Kamden Gipson leads the team with 56 assists on the season in 16 games.Â
Defensively Nate Goodlow leads the team with 36 steals followed by DeAngelo Adkins with 28 steals. Adkins leads the team in blocks with 24 on the season. Adkins leads the team in rebounding with 6.3 on the season followed by Smith with 5.4 rebounds.Â
