Lady Rangers Dropped Monday Game in Weatherford

WEATHERFORD, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State fell on the road Monday evening to Southwestern Oklahoma State. Southwestern used a strong second quarter out scoring the Lady Rangers 25-10 to take control after an even 18-18 first quarter. The Bulldogs never trailed after the second quarter before closing out the 77-60 victory.

1st quarter:

The Bulldogs started the scoring with a layup to take an early 2-0 lead before Faith Simpson knocked down her first points of the game to quickly even the score. Teams traded foul shots before Southwestern hit back to back threes taking a 10-4 lead over the Lady Rangers. Southwestern opened their first double digit lead at 14-4. Northwestern answered with a 7-0 run started by Camille Thomas before a Charmayne Marshall three brought the Lady Rangers back within three. Simpson knocked down a jumper before a Marshall three pushed Northwestern in front 18-17. Southwestern ties the game on a foul shot as the game was locked at 18-18 through one quarter.

2nd Quarter:
Southwestern started the quarter finishing off three straight three pointers to open a 27-20 lead with eight minutes to go. Talayah Thomas scored four straight to keep the Rangers with in three points. A Southwestern three with 4:39 left in the quarter opened a 36-28. Southwestern knocked down two straight threes to open a 41-28 lead. Following two foul shots to send the game into halftime with Northwestern trailing 43-28.

3rd Quarter:
Chrissen Harland knocked down a three pointer to start the second half but the Bulldogs answered with one of their own to hold their 15 point lead. Southwestern extended their lead to 19 at 52-33 with 6:31 left to play in the quarter. The game went into a two minute scoring drought by both teams before Simpson ended that with a mid range jump shot. Josena Frame then hit a jump shot in the paint helping spark a run as Northwestern cut the deficit to nine at 53-44. Southwestern held a 10 point advantage 56-46 through three quarters of action, 

4th Quarter:

Simpson hit a jumper before two foul shots by T. Thomas brought the Lady Rangers with in six. Southwestern had their first points of the quarter with 8:06 left in the game. Southwestern answered back pushing the lead back to 11 at 61-50. The lead remained at 11 after the teams traded points a few times before a Morgan Smith three pushed it to 14 with 4:28 to play. With two minutes left Southwestern grew the lead to 77-60 before the final minute of play was scoreless as the Bulldogs picked up the home victory.

Northwestern will return to action on Thursday evening and Saturday afternoon to close out the week with two home games including the hall of fame game Saturday.
