Rangers Fall on the Road in Shawnee

SHAWNEE, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Football traveled to Shawnee, Oklahoma for a conference game against Oklahoma Baptist. After a defensive start to the game the Bison took advantage of a 14 point second quarter to take the lead into halftime before closing out a 28-7 win over the Rangers. 
 

Northwestern falls to 0-8 on the season while Oklahoma Baptist improves to 5-3 on the year. The Ranger were led in passing by Jake Woodring finishing with 139 yards and a touchdown. Torrence Stevens had 113 yard receiving with the touchdown. 
 

Martin led the Rangers with two sacks in the game along with Ozz and Gilbreath each with one totaling four sacks. Martin led the team with nine tackles in total. 
 

THe Rangers got the ball first in this game as on the opening drive they were able to get one first down before being forced to punt. The Ranger defense did the same as Chima Ozz started it off with a sack before Oklahoma Baptist went three and out and punted. The two teams traded four punts overall in the opening quarter as it stayed locked 0-0 through the first. 
 

After a 35 yard play for hte Bison to pick up a first down, Antoine Martin slowed the drive down with a sack for a loss of eight yards setting up another Bison punt. After the third Ranger punt of the quarter Oklahoma Baptist offense struck following a six play 48 yard drive. Aidan Thompson found Michael Marshall for an 11 yarding passing touchdown for the first points of the game leading 7-0. 
 

The Rangers were then held to a three and out on their next possession as Oklahoma Baptist forced another punt and took advantage. Barrett Gilbreath picked up the third Ranger sack of the half forcing a 2nd and 14 but the Bison overcame this with back to back nine yard plays and the eventual 10 yard passing touchdown this time to Charles Whitebar taking a 14-0 lead into halftime. 
 

In the second half the defense started this one much like the start of the game forcing three punts in the first three possessions combined. On the fourth possession Oklahoma Baptist was able to go down the field in five plays for 76 yards as the Bison extended their lead to 21-0. 
 

Halfway through the fourth quarter Oklahoma Baptist was able to extend their lead with a rushing touchdown this time by Buddy Bizzell from three yards out to take a 28-0 lead. Northwestern was able to find the endzone for the first time three plays later as Jake Woodring found Torrence Stevens for a 77 yard touchdown making it a 28-7 lead. This gave Stevens 113 yards, reaching the century mark in yardage for the game. 
 

The game remained 28-7 for the final score after a couple more defensive stops. 

Northwestern will be back in action Saturday October 28th against Henderson State in Arkadelphia Arkansas.
