ALVA, OKLAHOMA - The Ranger Soccer team completed their home portion of their schedule with the final home game Wednesday against Southern Nazarene. After a scoreless first half Southern Nazarene won behind two goals from Bella Morgas in the second half.
The Rangers drop to 2-7-8 on the season with a 1-4-6 conference record while Southern Nazarene improves to 9-3-5 with a 5-2-4 conference mark. This was the Rangers first home loss of the season.
Northwestern looked to score first five of the first six shots of the game including three on goal in the opening fifteen minutes of the game. The Crimson Storm goalkeeper Gianna Bonnett was able to come up with three straight saves to keep the game scoreless.
Maggie Koster, the Rangers goalkeeper kept it scoreless with a save in the 21st minute on a shot from Brenda Castro. Koster was able to hold the game scoreless right before the break on back to back saves on a couple of Crimson Storm shot attempts as the two teams went into the break with a scoreless tie. The Rangers finished the half with eight shots to the Crimson Storm's five. As Koster had made three saves.
The Rangers came out of the break with a couple of scoring opportunities on back to back shots on goal for the Rangers as the Crimson Storm goalkeeper saved the rebound try to hold the game scoreless.
Southern Nazarene capitalized in the seventieth minute of the game as Bell Morgas found the back of the net for the first goal of the game to take a 1-0 lead over the Rangers. Morgas in the 77th minute of the game found the back of the net for the second time following a breakaway opportunity. This put the Crimson Storm in front 2-0 late in the half.
Northwestern had three more shots on goal before the end but Bonnett, the Crimson Storm goalkeeper was able to complete the shutout as the Rangers fell 2-0 Wednesday evening. The Rangers finished with 14 shots on goal to the Crimson Storm six.
The Rangers will have their final game of the regular season on the road Saturday against Oklahoma Baptist with the start time scheduled for 3:00 PM.
