ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State hosted Southern Arkansas for one of two final home games Saturday afternoon. The Muleriders opened a 35-0 lead at halftime before closing out a 42-14 victory over the Rangers.
Southern Arkansas improves to 8-2 on the season while the Rangers drop to 0-10 on the season.
The Rangers forced a field goal try in the Muleriders opening possesion forcing them into a try that was unscusseful. After the Rangers were forced to punt the Muleriders took over for the second time of the game and this time Southern Arkansas went down the field and gave the game its first points of the game following a 50 yard touchdown pass from OB Jones to Seth Johnson as Southern Arkansas took a 7-0 lead.
The Muleriders offense went back down the field following Northwestern punt as the Muleriders rushed up the middle for a 33 yard touchdown taking a 14-0 lead. Northwestern started driving toward the end of the 1st quarter but a fourth down stop by the Muleriders ketp the game 14-0 over the Rangers.
Following the turnover on downs Southern Arkansas went on a 14 play drive going 79 yards before scoring their third touchdown of the game second rushing to extend their lead back to 21-0. Southern Arkansas was able to extend their lead to 28-0 following an interception took over in Ranger territory and finished off with a one yard touchdown. The Southern Arkansas offense struck one more time before the half taking a 35-0 lead into the break.
Northwestern's offense found the end zone on the opening drive of the second half going 75 yards for a touchdown. It started with a 10 yard rush by Stevens before a 23 yard completion to Braden Reichert put the Rangers in Mulerider territory. Ethan Everson found Stevens once more this time for a 12 yard touchdown.
The Ranger defense forced a stop for a three and out including two incomplete passes. Everson kept the Ranger momentum starting with a nine yard pass to Travis Romar. After a couple first downs including a 31 yard touchdown pass to Chancelor Gill going down to the SAU 13. Everson finished off the drive with a rushing touchdown as the Rangers scored 14 straight points.
Southern Arkansas answered back though with a 33 yard touchdown pass completing a drive that started from the 50 yard line following a failed onside kick. Southern Arkansas struck on a 4th and 8 to make it a 42-14.
The game remained 42-14 as Southern Arkansas closed out the victory over the Rangers. Northwestern will complete their season next Saturday on senior day against rival Southwestern Oklahoma State with kickoff set for 3:00 PM.
