Rangers Fall in Non-Conference Matchup against the Aggies

LAWTON, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State traveled to Lawton on Thursday evening for a non-conference game against Cameron. The Aggies got off to a fast start taking a 17-2 lead over the Rangers following an 8-0 and 9-0 run. The Aggies led the whole way before closing out the 90-76 victory. 

 

Northwestern drops to 3-6 on the season following Thursday's game. The Rangers were led in scoring by Camron McDowell with 22 points one of four double figure scorers joined by Brian Free with 15, Marquise Milton with 12 and Chance Love with 14 points. McDowell added four steals as Shavaul Butters led with two blocks.

 

Andre Washington started the scoring for the Aggies in the Thursday night match-up as the Rangers got off to a slow start in the first five minutes. Cameron jumped out to an 8-0 lead and a 17-2 overall in the opening minutes. Washington scored the first six points of the game off a couple rebounds second being an offensive rebound he finished with a put back dunk. Kabeya Tshibangu put the Rangers on the board off a pass from Camron McDowell slammed down a dunk. The Aggies sent the lead to double digits for the first time at the 16:33 mark following a Andrews three pointer for a 14-2 lead, Andrews followed with his second straight three pointer pushing the home team's run to 9-0 following their 8-0 run. 

 

Free hit his first three pointer of the evening ending the Aggies 9-0 run followed by two Chance Love baskets cutting the deficit to 19-7. Cameron was able to maintain the double digit lead though over the Rangers extending it back to 14 points following a block from Jaylan Thomas. Marquise Milton helped the Rangers close the gap back to 11 points, knocking down a three pointer and a layup to give him seven first half points. It reached single digits for the first time since the opening minutes of the game following two points from Larry White

 

Northwestern continued to answer this time DaRun Clark for three assisted by McDowell as the Rangers drew back within nine at 39-30. Cameron got the answer though from Thomas with a three pointer sending the game into halftime at 49-36 in favor of the Aggies. 

 

Similar to the opening half in the second Cameron started fast continuing to extend their lead after a Thomas three pointer opened a 57-40 lead before stretching it to their largest lead of the game at 21 points at 61-40 with 16:30 remaining in the game. 

 

McDowell ended their run with his first points of the second half in which he would score 16 overall in the the half. After Cameron answered back Northwestern made a run to close the gap. McDowell had his third steal of the game finishing with a dunk followed by a layup cutting the deficit to 15 points. With 10 minutes left in the game Marquise Milton completed a three point play off a jump shot then finishing the foul shot at the line. A McDowell three pointer had the deficit down to 12. 

 

Love continued to comeback after a Milton steal assisted a pass up the floor to Love for a dunk as the Rangers trailed by eight with 4:54 remaining in the game. The Rangers closed to as close as seven points at 78-71 but another Aggies run to answer back extended the lead back to 14. Cameron closed out the victory at 90-76 over the Rangers Thursday evening. 

 

Northwestern will return to action on Saturday to close out the year against Southeastern Oklahoma State with tip off scheduled for 3:00 PM following the conclusion of the Lady Rangers game.
