WICHITA FALLS - Northwestern Oklahoma State dropped the final two games of the weekend tournament to Midwestern State and Cameron University. Midwestern answered back with two runs after the Rangers scored to take the lead. Cameron used a four run inning to win game two.
Abby DeTar got things started for the Rangers with a single in the first but she was left on first as the Rangers did not score. The starter for the Rangers Shakyrah Gladness retired the Mustangs in order.Â
Northwestern had first and second nobody out in their half of the second inning but the Midwestern defense escaped the jam throwing out Oakley caught stealing.Â
Midwestern struck first in the bottom of the 2nd inning after two singles and a hit batter the Mustangs had the bases loaded. A walk to follow pushed across the game's first run to take a 1-0 lead.
The Rangers answered back right away after a walk DeTar doubled to left center scoring Spearman. Howell followed with an RBI single scoring DeTart as the Rangers took a 2-1 lead over Midwestern St.Â
Midwestern answered back, retaking the lead as a sacrifice fly tied the game before a Monroe double to left center scored the third run.Â
The final run of the game came in the sixth inning on a fielder's choice as Bryant came across to score to make it 4-2.Â
The Mustangs closed out the 4-2 win over the Rangers to take game one of the two game days for Northwestern.
GAME TWO:
Ireland Caro had the game two start for the Rangers. The Aggies loaded the bases in the first inning but Caro was able to escape with no damage done as she got Clark to ground out into a fielder's choice. DeTar drew a walk in the Ranger half of the first inning but was unable to score as the game remained 0-0.
After Caro retired the side in order Northwestern had their first hit of the afternoon with a single to left by Pack. The score remained 0-0 through two innings of play. The pitcher's duel continued into the third inning as both pitchers retired the sides in order.Â
The pitching continued to take over in the game as it remained scoreless into the sixth inning before Cameron pushed across four runs.Â
It started with a single followed by a walk before a two run home run pushed across the game's first two runs. The Aggies loaded the bases before they drew a walk for their third run and a fielder's choice had the Rangers trailing 4-0.
Northwestern was able to answer back with a run in the bottom half of the inning as Spearman reached safely to start the inning before Abby DeTar hit her in with an RBI single to left field for the Rangers first run.Â
The game went into the seventh inning with the Rangers trailing 4-1. Howell completed a scoreless top of the seventh. Pack led off with a solo home run in the seventh inning to cut the deficit to 4-2 but that was all the Rangers could score as Cameron won by a final 4-2.Â
Northwestern will be back in action on Tuesday February 14th for a doubleheader rematch against Newman University in Wichita, Kansas.
