Rangers Fall in Final Game of Series to Henderson State

ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Henderson State took game three of the series over the Rangers Sunday following a big third inning taking a 6-0 lead. The Reddies won the series two games to three over the Rangers improving to 5-1 in conference with the Rangers now 2-4.

Shaughn Kelly tried to get things started for the Rangers with a leadoff double following a scoreless inning from DeHaas. Northwestern had second and third but Henderson State escaped the inning with no runs allowed.

After a quiet second inning for both teams Henderson State finished off a big third inning scoring six runs. It started from a leadoff double before a bunt single set up runners on the corner. After Henderson State scored on an error and two straight walks, a grand slam by Scritchfield pushed the Reddie lead to 6-0.

Northwestern had an opportunity to answer back with a couple of runs loading the bases with two outs but the Henderson stater Weaks survived the third with no runs allowed.

Trevor Saire led the inning off with a single before having first and third nobody out as Beiswanger hit Saire in with a double play to make it a 6-1 game. 

The Red-and-Black got one back in the sixth as Colby Grace started things with a one out single in the inning before coming across to score on the Thomas Beiswanger RBI single. 

The Reddies answered back though with three runs in their half of the inning taking advantage of a few opportunities following a RBI single and a couple of wild pitches to take a 9-2 lead through seven innings. 

Henderson State had their second straight three run inning after two walks to start the inning a three run blast by Stevens made it a 12-2 game. Rangers answered back with two runs in the 8th inning on RBI singles from Beiswanger and Kelly to cut the deficit to 12-4. 

Hoof of Henderson State hits a two run home run for a 14-4 lead before a walk and a triple tacked on another run. One more RBI single made it 16-4. Barcello hit a solo home run for the only Ranger run in the ninth inning as the Reddies closed out a 16-5 victory over Northwestern. 

The Rangers will return to action on Tuesday traveling to Claremore, Oklahoma for a non-conference game against Rogers State. Conference play will resume with a home series against Oklahoma Baptist Friday evening for a three game series.
