Lady Rangers Drop First of Two Weekend Games in Arkansas

MAGNOLIA, ARKANSAS- The Lady Rangers went on the road this weekend, following a postponement from the weather the Lady Rangers had back to back games against Arkansas teams: Monticello and Southern Arkansas. The Blossoms were able to secure win against the Lady Rangers, with a final score of 61-44.

This now makes the Lady Rangers 8-10 for the season, with a ranking of 10, which is right below Monticello's 9th place. Northwestern is 4-10 in the conference while Monticello is now 5-9.  

 Our leading scorers this evening for the Lady Rangers were Faith Simpson who had scored 10 points, and then Carly Craig and Camille Thomas both had 8 a piece.  

 First Quarter 

 Northwestern scored their first points from the free throw line after Faith Simpson draws a foul, scoring both shots. Carly Craig found her rhythm behind the three early on and scored her first of the game. Score at the end of the quarter was 5-20 with UAM in the lead. 

 Second Quarter  

 Nikya Orange drove to the basket opening the second quarter with a layup assisted by Craig. Craig followed for her second three-pointer at the 7:52 mark assisted by Charmayne Marshall as the Lady Rangers looked to continue to cut into the deficit. Camille Thomas earned her first two points of the game with a layup right before the media timeout. C. Thomas earns her third steal of the game after turnover made by the Blossoms. Craig is open for a mid-range jump shot at the 4:21 mark earning 8 of the 14 points scored by the team before the half is over. C. Thomas earns two free shots and completed both of them. The quarter ended with a steal from Tyauna Vaught and the score for the half was 16-29 in favor of Monticello.  

 Third Quarter 

 Within the first two minutes of the second half, Simpson was able to score in the post with an easy pass made by C. Thomas. She then scored the second basket out of the break with another layup with a pass made by Craig. She went on a 6 point run for the Rangers with another shot under the basket. C. Thomas scores two more free throws with two minutes left in the quarter. She made a second appearance at the line and made both, but Arkansas Monticello had an answer for each Rangers run as at the finish of the third quarter the score was 28-48.  

 Fourth Quarter  

 Talayah Thomas gets a fast break layup to start off the final quarter of the game. Next possession Craig finds Aubrey Ritter open on the wing for three points off the bench for her. Orange shoots a jump shot and scores at the 7:27 mark. T. Thomas was sent to the line earning Northwestern two more points.  Anna Motckya stole the ball from the Blossoms, passing it off to Carlie Badley who then was able to find an open pocket for Vaught to score a layup. Motckya made one foul shot at the line before Chrissen Harland was able to get as easy pass off to Vaught for an open jumper the next possession. Harland then gets her first basket of the night with 40 seconds left in the game scoring a layup. The game ended with a score of 44-61 (UAM). 

 The Lady Rangers will face Southern Arkansas Lady Muleriders tomorrow at 1:00pm before returning home for three consecutive games in Percefull.
