WEATHERFORD, OKLAHOMA - The Rangers completed the doubleheader sweep over the rival Bulldogs with a comeback 8-6 victory on game one before a 3-1 game two victory. Northwestern's two wins brings their record to 3-8 in conference with a 6-20 overall record.
Howell earned the game one victory in the circle along with Ireland Caro in game two earning the win.
GAME ONE:
Macy Spearman led the team with three hits and 2-RBIs including the game winning single in the seventh inning. Hannah Howell finished with 2-RBIs and two hits in the win. Avery Clark and Ashely Low picked up RBIs in the win.
Spearman led the game off with a single to right field before stealing second. With the bases loaded Ashley Low drew a walk along with Avery Clark pushing home the game's first two runs for a 2-0 lead.
Southwestern answered back with three runs though with runners on first and second Boline double to left field tied the game at two before a single by Barkley gave the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead through one.
The game remained 3-2 before Southwestern tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the 3rd on a two-run home run by Barkley for a 5-2 lead.
Hannah Howell broke the three inning scoring drought for the Rangers with a solo home run to bring the Ranger deficit to 5-3. Southwestern though answered back that inning with a sacrifice fly to left field for a 6-3 lead.
Northwestern was able to answer with two runs in the sixth inning on a RBI single by DeTar to make it 6-4 before a Howell double brought the score to 6-5 scoring DeTar.
The Rangers added three more runs in the seventh inning taking a 8-6 lead. After two outs Johnson walked before a Jaci Oakley double scored Clark who reached on an error. Spearman followed with a 2-RBI single, scoring Oakley and Johnson for an 8-6 lead.
Rangers closed out the win escaping the jam. Southwestern loaded the bases but a Barkley groundout sealed the game one win for the Rangers.
GAME TWO:
Abby DeTar led the team in hitting with two hits, a run scored, and an RBI. Ariana Potter was tied for team high in hits with two.
The teams traded zeros to start the game in the first inning after the Rangers started the game getting two baserunners before stranding two runners.
In the second inning Ashely Low started the inning off with a double to right center but Northwestern was unable to score Low. Ireland Caro worked around a one out double and a McPhillips single but a groundout kept the score at 0-0 through two innings.
Abby DeTar got the scoring started for this game with a solo home run to left field taking a 1-0 lead. Southwestern answered back right away after a single and walk led to an RBI single by Barkley to tie the game at 1-1. Caro escaped further damage, keeping the game at 1-1 after three.
Jaci Oakley started the fourth inning with a single to right field before a single by Ariana Potter single for first and third. Avery Clark picked up an RBI on a sacrifice bunt, scoring Oakley.
Hannah Howell extended the lead with an RBI single up the middle scoring Macy Spearman for a 3-1 Ranger lead.
Ireland Caro completed a scoreless sixth inning before Allie Hufford closed the game out with a clean seventh inning for the save. The Rangers completed the doubleheader sweep.
The Rangers will return home for a three game series this weekend starting on Friday afternoon for a 2:00 PM starting a doubleheader before Saturday's single game at 11:00 AM.
