Rangers Lose Two to Arkansas Tech

RUSSELLVILLE, ARKANSAS - Arkansas Tech swept the Rangers after winning both game Saturday afternoon. In game one the Wonder Boys came back to win on a walk off single before a big first inning scoring 11 runs took control early in the game. 

GAME ONE: 

Rangers jumped out strong in the opening game of the day on a single to left field before Jon Shaffer and Gavin Mendoza drove runs in on a single and a fielder's choice. Will Kates threw a scoreless bottom of the first holding the Ranger lead. 

In the third inning Northwestern extended their lead after a leadoff single by Hagen Barcello he was later driven in by Gavin Mendoza on a single into right field for his second RBI of the day for a 3-0 lead. 

Kates held the Wonder Boys scoreless until the fourth inning when McBride hit a sacrifice fly. Arkansas Tech later tied the game on a Duddleston single to right field which brought the game to 3-3. 

The Rangers answered back though in the top fifth inning after a single and a double led to a Trevor Saire double to left center for a 5-3 Ranger lead. 

The Wonder Boys scored on a wild pitch for a 5-4 deficit to the Rangers. Hayden Priest started the inning with a leadoff double Barcello followed with a single to center field to score the sixth run for a 6-4 lead. 

Arkansas Tech came back though starting in the sixth inning. Ranallo doubled to right center cut their deficit to one. After a scoreless seventh inning a 1-2-3 eighth inning sent the game into the final inning. 

The Rangers had a leadoff single but left him on base after a ground out and a line out. Arkansas Tech came back in the ninth inning as a hit by pitch sparked the rally. With a Runner on first Medina hit a double to right field to tie the game at 6-6. McBride followed with a single back up the middle taking a 7-6 lead for a walk off single. 

The Wonder Boys took game two of the the three game series to win the series heading into the third game. 

GAME TWO:  

Arkansas Tech opened this game fast in run support for their team as the second batter Poe drove in McBride with an RBI double. This was the first run of 11 in the inning. Arkansas Tech finished the inning with three doubles and nine hits for a 11-0 lead over the Rangers. 

Rangers answered in the top of the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Harley Shaffer drove in Brayden Koenig following two walks and a single. 

After a scoreless second inning for the Wonder Boys, Arkansas Tech extended their lead back to 11 on an RBI single into left field for a 12-1 lead through three innings. 

In the fourth inning a hit batter followed by a single led to a Shaughn Kelly RBI single into left field before Barcello followed with a sacrifice fly to trail 12-3.

Arkansas Tech extended their lead in the sixth inning as Houge hit an RBI double to right field for a 13-3 lead. 

Arkansas Tech completed the three game sweep over the Rangers with the 13-3 win. Northwestern will travel to Emporia State for a mid week game Tuesday before returning home for a three game series against Harding.
