Rangers Fall in First Game of Series to Southeastern

ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State dropped the series opener against the Savage Storm 12-9. Southeastern used a four run fourth inning to regain the lead on the Rangers at 9-5 and never lost that lead.

Gavin Mendoza and Paul Sachen each finished with 3-RBI's to lead the team. Hagen Barcello, Mendoza, and Sachen each had two hits for the team highs.

Southeastern jumped out early in game one after scoring three runs after taking advantage of back to back walks to start the game before a Rice single before Burroughs followed with a two RBI single taking an early 3-0 lead.

The Rangers answered back in the second inning with a 2-run home run from Paul Sachen following a single by Mendoza to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Southeastern got two runs back in the third inning to take a 5-2 lead before Northwestern tied the game in the third inning. After the first two Rangers got out Northwestern had two straight hits from Brandon Holdren, and Hagen Barcello before Mendoza followed with a three run home run to tie the game at 5-5.

The Savage Storm loaded the bases with nobody out in the fourth inning after a single and two straight walks before a fielder's choice drove in the sixth run. This was followed by a 2-RBI single for an 8-5 lead for the Savage Storm. French followed with an RBI single to take a 9-5 lead.

After a scoreless fourth inning Burroughs singled home Bonstrom to extend their lead to 10-5. Ramirez with two outs hit a 2-out triple before scoring on the play from a throwing error. The Rangers tried climbing back in the game as Mendoza on second base led to an RBI single by Hayden Priest to cut the deficit to five. Shaughn Kelly later hit a 2-RBI single to make the game 11-8.

In the seventh inning the two teams traded runs as Bonstrom doubled to right field for their 12th run of the game. Sachen had the Ranger RBI on an RBI groundout, scoring Barcello.
