ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern ended their season today with a 4-1 win to complete the season with a winning series, defeating Ouachita Baptist in home territory. The senior day game had a slow start for the Rangers, but were able to overcome and take the win after the four run take over in the fifth inning.
Today's lineups were a special one for the ladies, as Coach Webb put in every senior for the final game of the season. Jocelyn Long has been out all season due to an injury, but was able to claim the starting center field position in her last game as a Ranger. This was an emotional yet beautiful moment for the girls.
Quickly after Macy Spearman was substituted back into the game for Long and the game began. With senior Hannah Howell starting on the mound, the first inning was the only one she allowed the Lady Tigers to score. They earned a run after two walks were issued and an error was committed by Northwestern.
Rangers went in order their first go-around of batting, and OBU was short of scoring following. Bases were loaded after a batter was hit by a pitch, and our defense made sure to not let any runners make it home. Howell pitched her first strikeout of the game directly after that hit and shortstop Tatum Winters snagged a put out to senior Mackenzie Adams at first.
Lindsey McElroy, another senior for Northwestern, earned the first hit of the game singling to left field. However they did not score off this inning as the Rangers continued to trail 1-0.
A reach to first was made off a fielder's choice by the Tigers but were also short of scoring their third time up to bat. Up until the fifth inning, each batting possession by both teams only resulted in a single hit and no runs.
In the bottom of the fifth, catcher Madeline Pack hit double into left center. Ashley Low was sent in as a pinch runner for Pack and reached third off an error made by OBU. Bases were loaded as Spearman was issued a walk, and senior Abby DeTar fulfilled the scoring change hitting a double for 2 RBIs and a 2-1 Ranger lead. This provoked a pitching change for the Tigers and yet the Rangers were still able to score within the inning. Howell hit sacrifice fly to send Spearman home and Adams hit a single RBI to get DeTar home, resulting in a lead 4-1.
There was only one more hit made by the Tigers before the game ended in the top of sixth. The final inning of the game resulted in a few pitching changes for Northwestern as Allie Hufford ended her softball career with a strikeout, and Ireland Caro finished the game off pitching a groundout to first.
The Rangers ended their season with a record of 13-37, and sit 9th in the conference as the Rangers close out the season with a series victory.
