Rangers Drop Weekend Opener in Missouri 3-1

MISSOURI - Northwestern Oklahoma State traveled to Missouri for the final non-conference tournament weekend of the season. The Rangers dropped the match 3-1 to Missouri S&T. 

The loss drops the Rangers to 3-7 on the season. 

SET 1: 

The Rangers jumped on the board first with a kill by Erika Asencio Soriano setup by Brianda Diaz for her first assist of the night. S&T answered back though, taking a 5-2 lead over the Ragners following a 5-1 run. Northwestern came roaring back though to tie the set at 8-8 following two straight kills by Carmae Jones followed by Erika Ascencio Soriano. The Ranger run did not stop there though as the Rangers then took a 10-8 lead for a 5-0 run. Out of a home team timeout they went on a quick 3-0 run to regain the lead for Missouri S&T for an 11-10 Ranger deficit. The score was then tied at 14-14 before another Missouri S&T run as they opeend a 21-16 lead over Northwestern. Missouri S&T went on the close out the first set victory by a final of 25-18 as the Rangers trailed 1-0 in the match. 

SET 2: 

The second set went the longest as the Rangers took the set 28-26. It opened in favor of Missouri S&T opening a 7-2 lead over the Rangers. They maintained the lead until Asencio Soriano started a run for the Rangers. Northwestern first cut the deficit in half trailing 10-7 before tying it at 13-13 and taking their first lead at 14-13 following an error. The team continued to battle with four more score changes and ties as it was 18-18. A Cameron Lobb service ace put the Rangers in front followed by a bad set had the Rangers in front 20-18. As the Rangers trailed 25-24 Northwestern tied it at 25 and 26 before Mariela Jimenez, an attack error and a kill by Ozdemir gave the Rangers a 28-26 victory and a set two win. 

SET 3:

The third set the Rangers trailed 2-0 before Jimenez put the Rangers on the board and a kill by Ozdemir had a 3-2 Ranger lead changing the pace. Missouri S&T later tied it at 5-5 before going on a 5-0 run taking a 10-5 lead over the Rangers. An attack error ended the run helping the Rangers start their own as the Rangers cut the deficit down to one at 11-10. Missouri S&T extended their lead then to 20-15. A kill by Carmae Jones assisted by Cameron Lobb ended their run there but Missouri later sealed the set victory at 25-17. 

SET 4:

The Rangers started the scoring with the first point on a service error. Missouri answered back though taking a 5-2 lead after a kill by Alina Carrillo. A kill by Ascencio Soriano and a service ace by Lobb had the Rangers down two at 7-5.  After a 4-0 run to make it 11-6 Missouri then went on a 5-0 run taking a 16-6 lead.  Ozdemir was able to stop the run with a kill by with the score at 19-10 Missouri S&T went on a 6-0 run to seal the victory 25-10 and a match win 3-1 over the Rangers. 

Northwestern will be back in action on Saturday morning against Upper Iowa at 10:00 AM to close out their weekend in Missouri before returning to conference play against Oklahoma Baptist.
