Rangers Fall at Newman Saturday Evening

WICHITA, KANSAS - Northwestern Oklahoma State Soccer traveled to Wichita, Kansas for a Saturday evening matchup against Newman. The Rangers struck first on a goal by Tiara Campbell assisted by Fitzgerald in the 42nd minute. Newman answered though with two in the second half to steal the 2-1 victory. 

The Rangers drop to 0-2 on the season while Newman improves to 1-0. Rangers finished with 11 shots and seven of them being on goal compared to seven shots and five on goal by Newman. 

Northwestern controlled the early going of the game with two scoring chances on a shot by Callie Haneborg that was saved by the Jets goalkeeper. Victoria Ruvalcaba then had a shot opportunity go high. The Rangers had two more shots at the 27th minute once again saved by Webster the Jets goalkeeper. 

The Rangers capitalized on their opportunity in the 42nd minute as Cassidy Fitzgerald set up Tiara Campbell for a perfect goal to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead right before the half. The Rangers had two corner kicks before the break but were stopped. 

Northwestern carried the 1-0 lead into halftime. 

Newman came out of the break, tying the game in the opening five minutes after a missed corner kick by Maylani Birckbickler tied the game at 1-1 in the 48th minute of the match. Five minutes later Birckbickler struck again for her second goal of the half and a 2-1 Newman lead at the 53rd minute of the game. 

The Rangers tried to quickly answer with a shot wide left from Jenna Mills. Haneborg had one on net saved by Webster.  The game remained 2-1 through the 70th minute as against the Rangers had another shot on goal this one from Isabella Mcmillan

Before the final buzzer the Rangers had two more shots on goal one from Campbell and one from Ruvalcaba. 

The Rangers will have their home opener on Monday morning at 11:00 AM against Nebraska at Kearney.
