Rangers Swept By Bison Thursday Evening

SHAWNEE, OKLAHOMA  - Northwestern Oklahoma State was in Shawnee, Oklahoma Thursday evening against Oklahoma Baptist. The Bison won the matchup 3-0 over the Rangers. Northwestern falls to 3-2 in conference play with a 9-7 overall record. The Bison improved to 8-9 on the year with a 2-3 GAC record. 

 

Erika Asencio Soriano led the team with 12 kills followed by Macy Shreffler and Ivanny Blackwood with four kills. Hennesys Lalane finished with 22 assists, and Mikayla White with eight. Brianda Diaz led the team with 14 digs. 

 

Oklahoma Baptist opened the scoring on a kill by Jill Leslie for the early 1-0 lead. Ivanny Blackwood answered for the Ranges before Ece Ozdemir gave the Rangers their first lead of the night at 2-1. Oklahoma Baptist answered back tying the score 3-3. Rangers took a 5-3 lead after two straight points, before taking a 9-6 lead following a block by Blackwood and Erika Asencio Soriano. The set was tied three straight times before the Rangers took a 12-11 lead. Oklahoma Baptist changed the set from there with four straight kills for a 16-12 lead before three blocks opened a 19-12 lead. The Oklahoma Baptist run lasted to a 24-12 lead and a 13-0 run for the home team. Oklahoma Baptist closed the set out after a kill by Macy Shreffler ended the run but the Bison won the set 25-13 for the 1-0 match lead. 

 

The Bison continued to carry the momentum as Oklahoma Baptist scored the first seven points of the second set for the early 7-0 lead before the Ranger timeout. Oklahoma Baptist led 11-0 before the Rangers scored two straight on a Bison error and a Brooke MIller block. Oklahoma Baptist answered back for a 15-4 lead. Mariela Jimenez had two kills followed by Brooke Miller kills. Oklahoma Baptist closed out the second set 25-13 taking a 2-0 match lead over the Rangers.

 

In the third set the Rangers jumped out to a 3-1 lead over the Bison following a kill by Blackwood, and Asencio Soriano. A block by Schreffler and Blackwood pushed the lead to 6-4. Oklahoma Baptist tied the score at 6-6. The set remained tied through 11-11 following a Ranger error.Out of the OBU timeout the Rangers scored four straight climbing to a 15-11 lead following a kill by Carmae Jones. Oklahoma Baptist climbed back within one at 18-17 following a 4-0 run answering the Rangers. Northwestern led 22-17 before Oklahoma Baptist scored five straight to tie the set at 22-22. Kills by Hennesys Lalane had the Rangers in the lead 24-22 but Oklahoma Baptist came back tying the score 24-24. The Bison closed out the match sweep following a 29-27 win over the Rangers in set three. 

 

Northwestern will be home on Thursday and Friday with two matches one against Arkansas Monticello and Southern Arkansas.
