ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Lady Rangers hosted Bethel College on Wednesday evening. The Rangers used a strong opener quarter taking a 33-5 lead before closing out a 98-45 victory over the Threshers.
The Rangers improved to 2-1 on the season following the win and 2-1 overall at home.
Northwestern was led in the win by four players scoring in double figures led by Kennedy Hight with 15 a game high. Payton Jones finished with 13, Tegan Jones had 12 and Jaida Shipp with 10. Kira Bass led the Rangers in rebounding with nine, as Hight had seven assists. The Lady Rangers were led defensively by Reece and Camille Thomas with four steals.
After an early foul shot by Bethel, Payton Jones drilled a three pointer assisted by Kira Bass for the Rangers first lead over the evening at 3-1. This sparked a 21-0 run for the Lady Rangers after forcing seven turnovers on the run. Jones led the team with nine points followed by Kira Bass with five on the run as the Rangers shot 9 of 12 to start the game in the opening minutes. Rangers then led 21-1. Bethel scored four straight before closing the quarter on a 12-0 run after Jaida Shipp and Jones each had four points as the Rangers led 33-5 after the opening quarter.
The Lady Rangers pushed the lead to 30 to open the second quarter as Summya Adigun hit a couple of free throws giving the Rangers a 35-5 lead. The Rangers held Bethel scoreless for the opening four minutes of the quarter starting on a 10-0 run in the quarter and 22-0 going back to the first quarter. Kennedy Hight led the way for the Rangers on the run with five points as the lead was extended to 43-5. The Rangers continued to extend the lead as Northwestern pushed it to a 41 point game, as the Rangers led at halftime 55-14.
Bethel started the second half on an 8-2 run shooting 3 of 7 from the floor. Kennedy Hight though answered with a five straight points herself after a three pointer assisted by Lily Mahy before a rebound off a defensive rebound from Kira Bass her eighth of the game. The Lady Rangers pushed their lead to the largest of the game at that point on a Bass layup off an assist by Hight, her seventh of the game. The Lady Rangers led 76-34 through three quarters of play over Bethel.
Jamesha Reece scored her first points of the night to start the fourth quarter as the Lady Ranger lead was stretched to 44 points assisted by Chelsea Lindsey. Reece led the way in the fourth quarter for the Lady Rangers with seven points in the quarter as Jaida Shipp added four, as the Rangers shot 50% in the quarter out scoring Bethel 22-11 in the final quarter. Carson Schanbacher hit the Rangers final shot to give the Lady Rangers a 98-43 lead before Bethel hit the final shot of the game. Northwestern closed out the 43 point win at 98-45 win in Percefull Fieldhouse.
Northwestern's next game will be on the road on November 21st in Kansas against Pittsburg State in Pittsburg Kansas. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
