Rangers Drop Non-Conference Game With Cameron

ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State had a non-conference game against Cameron University on Wednesday evening. The Aggies used 23 points from Aaron Jacob to top the Rangers 89-85.

Northwestern falls to 2-2 on the season with Cameron improving to 2-3 on the year. 

The Rangers were led by Camron McDowell with 26 points, one of three double figure scorers joined by Max Alexander with 18 and DaRaun Clark with 14. Kabeya Tshibangu led the team in rebounding with six. McDowell and Alexander each had 3 assists in the game. 

Clark got the scoring started early in the game with an opening three pointer assisted by McDowell, for one of three three pointers in the first half for Clark. The Rangers started strong with a perfect 3-3 from the floor to start the game on two three pointers and forcing a turnover leading to fast break points from Max Alexander. Cameron took their first lead on a Reggie Prudhomme layup for the 11-10 lead over the Rangers. However Justin Norris hit a three pointer pushing the Rangers back in front starting a 7-0 run as Clark hit a three pointer while drawing the foul for a four point play. 

The Rangers pushed the lead to the largest of the game on a 7-0 run as the Rangers went up by nine points following a couple of foul shots before an Alexander jump shot assisted by Liam Canty. Cameron answered back though with a 10-1 run to even the score at 27-27 on a Jarmell Johnson three pointer. Kenyon Holcombe answered Johnson's three pointer with one of his own for his first points of the game. Kabeya Tshibangu had his first points on a dunk to push the Rangers in front 38-32. 

Cameron had their best run of the first half after the dunk though as a perfect 4-4 over the next three minutes sent the Aggies on a 12-0 run taking a 44-38 lead over the Rangers. Tshibangu had an offensive rebound put back to end the run and help the Rangers close the gap before halftime as two Holcombe foul shots evened the score at 47-47 at the break. 

McDowell answered the scoring in the second half after his second steal of the evening led to points off the turnover and his 14 point of the night on a layup. The teams traded baskets through the first minutes of the second half as the score was tied 56-56 with 16 minutes left in the game. 

A Justin Norris three pointer broke the tie a minute later giving the Rangers a 59-56 lead. The largest lead of the second half was five after a layup by Max Alexander giving the Rangers a 63-58 lead.Cameron then scored 11 straight points to steal the lead going up 69-63 over the Rangers. 

Logan Phillips broke the run though with a layup off a pass from Tshibangu. The Rangers evened the score at 73-73 after a steal leading to a fast break layup and his 12 point of the night. 

Tshibangu put the Rangers in front 80-79 before keeping the lead after his third block shot of the night. Cameron took an 83-82 lead off an offensive put back by Jaxon Ingram for the 83-82 lead. Cameron closed out the 89-85 victory over the Rangers Wednesday leading the rest of the game in the final minute of play. 

The Rangers continue the home stand on Saturday, November 23rd with an afternoon 3:00 PM tip-off scheduled against Adams State.
