ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State closed the non-conference portion of the schedule on Tuesday evening with a game against Friends University. The Falcons used a late first half run to take a halftime lead before closing out the 21 points win over the Rangers.
The Rangers drop to 3-3 on the season overall as Friends improves to 6-2 on the year.Â
Northwestern was led by Max Alexander on Tuesday scoring a game high 38 points making 16 shots including three 3-pointers while adding four assists. DaRaun Clark was the other double-figure scorer for the Rangers with 14 points.Â
Justin Norris drilled a three pointer to start the game assisted by Max Alexander as the Rangers went up early but Friends answered with a quick 5-0 run taking their first lead of the game before Alexander tied the score at 8-8 for two of his 38 points in the game. Northwestern took the lead at 10-8, but a 6-0 run at Friends in the lead 14-10.Â
Halfway through the opening half the Rangers trailed 20-18 after Alexander buried a three pointer for three of his 10 points bringing the Rangers back within two. Kyler Penco hit his first shot before Alexander finished off a three point play off a Kabeya Tshibangu rebound leading the break to put the Rangers back in front 23-22. Randy Woolf hit a three pointer to continue his strong first half helping Friends take a 30-25 lead over the Rangers. Alexander hit a three pointer to bring the Rangers back within two.Â
Friends went on a 8-2 run to close the half to take a 42-34 lead over the Rangers following back to back three pointers as the visitors led by eight into halftime.Â
Northwestern's DaRaun Clark drilled a three pointer to start the half but the Falcons answered back on the Rangers after a tip on a layup pushed Friends to a nine point lead. Their first double digit lead came after a layup passed in the paint off a rebound for the 52-41 lead.Â
Cahlese Lee hit a three pointer to take a 17 point lead, their largest of the game at the time, but Clark answered with a three of his own before an Alexander layup brought the deficit to 12. Friends extended their lead back to 16 with a 6-0 run of a Randy Woolf three pointer had the Falcons in front 72-56. Their run continued as Woolf hit his third three pointer taking a 77-58 lead They pushed their lead to 20 points at 79-58 over the Rangers.Â
Friends continued to hold the 20 point lead carrying the lead into the five minute mark with 84-64 score over the Rangers. The Rangers brought the lead back down to 15 after Alexander scored five straight but a three pointer pushed the deficit back to 18.Â
Friends closed out the 92-71 win over the Rangers on Tuesday evening closing out non conference play.Â
Northwestern returns to action on December 5th against Arkansas Tech to open Great American Conference play. Tip-off scheduled for 7:30 against the Wonder Boys.
