DURANT, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Volleyball traveled to Durant, Oklahoma on Thursday for a conference game against Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Savage Storm got off to a fast start before sweeping the match with a 3-0 victory over the Rangers.
Northwestern falls to 13-13 on the season with a 7-7 conference record, while Southeastern improves to 12-13 on the year with a 7-6 conference record.
Mariela Jimenez led the team with 11 kills on the evening followed by Macy Shreffler with nine. Carmae Jones had five blocks, while Mikayla White had 31 assists and Brianda Diaz with 17 digs.
Southeastern Oklahoma State jumped out early with a 3-0 lead after two straight kills and a service ace. Southeastern continued to control the opening set after the Rangers were on the board by a kill from Ece Ozdemir, Southeastern used a 6-0 run to take a 12-3 lead over the Rangers. After Macy Shreffler had a kill to end the run the home team had four more straight, expanding their lead to double digits at 16-4. The Rangers best run was a 7-2 run started by an Ivanny Blackwood kill. The Rangers had a block by Ece Ozdemir. The run put the Rangers down seven at 18-11. The closest the Rangers were able to get was five at the end of the set as Jimenez had back to back kills before one from Ozdemir. Southeastern closed out the set one victory 25-19 over the Rangers for the 1-0 match lead.
The home team started the second set much like the first set with a 3-0 advantage to start the set. Ozdemir put the Rangers on the board with a kill. Northwestern cut the deficit to 4-3 following a kill by Carmae Jones. Southeastern answered with four straight points to extend the lead to 8-3 over the Rangers. Southeastern scored four straight to extend their lead to 14-6. Over the Rangers. Kills from Macy Shreffler and Ivanny Blackwood and a service ace from Brianda Diaz cut the deficit to three at 16-13. Southeastern widened the gap again though to eight following score four of the next five points for a 23-15 lead before closing out the 25-18 set victory and pushing their match lead to 2-0.
In the third set the Rangers were trailing 5-0 after the Savage Storm rattled off the first five points of the set on a couple of kills followed by a block. Carmae Jones had the first point of the set for the Rangers as Northwestern trailed 5-1. Southeastern continued to push their lead stretching it to eight at 11-3, and eventually double digits at 16-6 following a 4-0 run. The Rangers though answered back with eight straight points started by an Ece Ozdemir kill and three straight service aces before a block by Carmae Jones brought the score to 16-14. Southeastern answered with a 4-1 run before closing out the 25-20 win over the Rangers and a 3-0 match win.
Northwestern will be back in action on Tuesday evening against Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford with the start time at 6:00 PM.
