ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Men's basketball closed out the seven game homestand against Southern Nazarene dropping the game 77-60. Southern Nazarene used a late first half run into the second half scoring eight straight to gain the lead before closing out the win.
Southern Nazarene is now 6-1 with a 3-0 conference record while the Rangers fall to 4-5 with a 1-2 GAC record.
Camron McDowell led the Rangers with 24 points as one of two players in double figures joined by Max Alexander with 12 points.
The opening four minutes of the game the teams traded points as Justin Norris finished a layup to tie the game at 7-7 off an assist by Camron McDowell. A McDowell three pointer then pushed the Rangers in front 12-10, Logan Phillips followed with a jump shot for the 14-10 lead. Southern Nazarene went on four straight points to tie the game at 14-14. Kenyon Holcombe's three pointer pushed the Rangers back in front at 20-18 this time assisted by Alexander.Â
Halfway through the opening half Krupalija hit a layup to tie the game at 20-20. Holcombe scored his second straight basket, but Southern Nazarene answered with a three pointer by Bam Johnson for the 23-22 lead.
Southern Nazarene opened a seven point lead at 31-24 on a layup by Baron Bacey before Northwestern climbed back. Started by an Alexander jump shot and a three pointer scoring five straight before a McDowell dunk tied the game at 31-31. The game was tied 33-33 before Southern Nazarene closed the half on a 5-0 run to take a 38-33 lead into the halftime break.
The Crimson Storm hit a three pointer to start the second half for a 41-33 lead. Southern Nazarene extended their lead to nine at 45-36, before McDowell hit a three pointer for the 45-39 lead over the Rangers. Southern Nazarene pushed their lead to double digits for the first time at 52-42 with 12:50 left to play in the game.
Halfway through the half the visitors extended the lead to 16, their largest at that point in the game before stretching it to 21 points. Southern Nazarene closed out the victory over the Rangers by a final of 77-60 after Skyler Kimberlin scored a layup.
Northwestern will be back in action on Monday evening for the first conference road game of the season against Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant, Oklahoma. The next home game will be December 19th against East Central University.
