Rangers Bullpen Combines For 7+ Scoreless Innings Helping to Series Win

ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Baseball closed out the series against Ouachita Baptist Saturday afternoon completing the 6-2 victory over the Tigers. The win gives Northwestern the conference opening weekend series win over the Tigers. The Rangers scored two runs in three different innings to earn the win.

The win improves the Rangers to 9-2 on the season with a 2-1 Great American Conference record.

Hagen Barcello led the Rangers offense with two hits, two runs, and an RBI in the win. Colby Grace hit a solo home run to center field in the sixth which gave the Rangers the 3-2 lead and never trailed again. Seven different players picked up hits in the win.

Northwestern's relief pitching combined for 7.2 innings of scoreless baseball out of the bullpen as Shafer Glasscock threw 3.2 innings striking out five helping the Rangers to the victory. Will Kates earns the win after throwing 1.1 innings. Jacob Fuller threw 1.2 innings striking out two  leading to Zac McEachern earning the save after a scoreless ninth inning.

Rangers starting pitcher Drew Price worked around a bases loaded jam in the top of the first inning to keep the game scoreless. The Tigers struck first though in the second  after a lead off walk led to an RBI single by Scott followed by an RBI double to left field as the Tigers led 2-0.

Trevor Saire reached scoring position following a stolen base but was left on as Northwestern at the time was not able to answer back. The score remained 2-0 until the fourth inning when the Ranger offense tied the game.

All started after Barcello led the inning off with a double hit hard off the left field wall that led to him scoring on a wild pitch. Colby Grace later came to score on a Tiger error after he reached on a walk.

Glasscock held the Tigers scoreless through the fifth inning striking out five batters after coming in relief. Will Kates was able to do the same in the sixth before Northwestern offense pushed the team in front. With one out Colby Grace drilled on to center field for the 3-2 lead and the Rangers first of the afternoon. Northwestern was not done there as Chase Gordon hit a single through the right side before a Jacob Wiltshire RBI double to left field pushed across the fourth run and a 4-2 lead through six innings.

The Rangers had their third two run inning of the afternoon in the 8th inning. Carson Wright delivered a lead off double which led to a Hagen Barcello triple to left center field, scoring Wright for a 5-2 lead. Saire hit in the final run of the afternoon with a single back up the middle into center for a 6-2 Ranger lead that scored Barcello.

After a lead-off walk McEachern came in picking up a ground ball double play and a fly out to close out the win over the Tigers and earn the first conference series win of the season.

The Rangers will be back in action on Tuesday February 20th for one more home game before the home stand comes to a close against Emporia State. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
