ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State completed the Tuesday midweek game against Newman University. The Rangers used a comeback win for the third time this season as the Rangers scored five runs in the 8th inning to win 9-8 after a Paul Sachen 2-RBI double for the lead.
The Rangers improve to 3-1 on the season with the win over the Jets.Â
Northwestern's offense was led by Theron Perkins who hit two 2-run home runs for 4-RBIs in total. Dylan Bradford and Paul Sachen each had two hits as well as Sachen drove in two runs with Bradford driving in one. Jacob Shaw threw two scoreless innings striking out one while picking up his second win of the season.
Newman struck first in the match-up as their lead-off hitter Wohl hit a solo home run for an early 1-0 lead. Rangers had a base runner in the first as Carson Wright walked before stealing second but was left on base as Newman led 1-0 through the first.
The Jets added one more in the second inning as Smith had a lead-off walk and stole second before coming around to score for a 2-0 lead.
Rangers got on the board in the third inning after Oscar Gallardo led off with a single. Wright drew a bases-loaded walk forcing in Gallardo as the Rangers trailed 2-1. The Jets used a double play to escape the inning by only allowing the Rangers to score one run.
Will Kates, the Rangers starter, kept it scoreless through the third and fourth inning but the Jets extended their lead in the fifth. Arnold hit an RBI ground out for a 3-1 lead before a 2-run home run by Trammell pushed their lead to 5-1 through five innings.
The score remained 5-1 until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Rangers struck for three runs. The inning started with Trevor Saire singling back up the middle and stealing second, setting up an RBI double by Chase Gordon. Gordon was followed by Perkins' first 2-run home run of the afternoon as the Rangers cut the deficit to 5-4.Â
Newman answered back in the top half of the seventh inning by scoring three runs of their own to extend their lead back to four. A lead off home run made it 6-4 before a Smith two run home run pushed the visitors lead back to four.Â
Northwestern made their push in the 8th inning when the offense struck for five runs giving the Rangers their first lead of the game. After a lead-off walk Perkins hit his second home run of the game which cut the deficit in half to make it an 8-6 game.
Bradey Bejarano kept the momentum going with a pinch hit single later scoring on a single by Bradford. With the Rangers trailing 8-7 and runners on the corners, Sachen delivered a 2-RBI double to give the Rangers the 9-8 lead after Barcello and Bradford came around to score.Â
Shaw allowed two singles in the ninth but catcher Zach Vetal threw out Glosson trying to steal second before Jacob Shaw got the final batter to ground out to third as the Rangers completed the 9-8 comeback win.Â
The Rangers will be home on Friday opening a four game series against Truman State University with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 PM.
