ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Baseball completed the three game sweep over Southern Nazarene Sunday afternoon. The Rangers came back on the Crimson Storm for the second straight game after a 5th run eighth inning after Trevor Stiles gave the Rangers a 10-9 lead on a 2-run home run. Northwestern closed out the 12-9 victory.
The Rangers improve to 15-7 on the season with a 8-4 Great American Conference record. Northwestern is now 13-2 at home winning six straight in Alva and four straight conference games.
Northwestern was led in hits by three players with three each as Carson Wright, Hagen Barcello, and Jacob Wiltshire each had three. Wright led the team with 4-RBIs in the win including a home run one of two Rangers. Travor Stiles being the second one to put the Rangers in front.
Southern Nazarene struck early after having their first three batters reach safely on a single and hit batter before an RBI double to center field scored the game's first run. A wild pitch and a ground pushed the Crimson Storm lead to 3-0 through the top of the first inning.
After Dylan Bradford led off with a single and a stolen base he came around to score on a Paul Sachen double to right center to bring the deficit to 3-1. The Rangers came back to tie the game in the second inning as Bradey Bejarano reached on an error, before Jacob Wiltshire singled and a Carson Wright double to center field tied the game at 3-3 through the second inning.
Colby Mitchell threw back to back scoreless innings keeping it at 3-3. Will Kates pitched the fourth following in Mitchell's place as the Rangers held the Storm scoreless for four straight innings.
Northwestern grabbed their first lead of the game in the 5th inning after a Paul Sachen single, later scoring on a Hagen Barcello single to left field to give the Rangers the 4-3 lead after five innings.
Southern Nazarene struck back on a solo home run to left field to tie the game at 4-4,but the game did not stay tied for a while as in the home half of the inning the Rangers struck back. After a leadoff double to left center field, Wright hit a 2-run home run giving the Rangers the lead. Barcello added one more on an RBI single giving the Rangers a 7-4 lead.
The Crimson Storm stole the lead in the seventh inning though coming back for five runs on the Rangers. After a bases loaded walk brought the score to 7-5 a grand slam by Orman pushed the Crimson Storm in front 9-7.
Northwestern for the second straight game, the Rangers came back late in the game after a scoreless eighth from Shafer Glasscock and Jaocb Shaw the Rangers struck a two out rally. Hagen Barcello started the rally with a two out double before a Trevor Saire single to left field scored one.Trevor Stiles followed with a 2-run blast for the 10-9 lead. The Rangers did not stop there though as the bases were loaded before a Chad Green 2-RBI single scored Wiltshire and Bradford for the 12-9 lead.
The Rangers closed out the game behind a clean ninth inning from Jacob Shaw for his third win of the season and closed out the series sweep over the Crimson Storm.
Northwestern will be back home for four games this upcoming week starting on March 12th vs Oklahoma Panhandle State before closing out the week with a three game set against Arkansas Tech.
