Northwestern Wins Series Opener Behind Strong Balance of Offense and Pitching

DURANT, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Baseball opened a three game series against Southeastern Oklahoma State Friday afternoon with a single game winning 11-1 over the Savage Storm. After a close 1-1 game Northwestern used a three run 5th inning and scored in the final five innings to open the 10 run lead and victory.

Northwestern improves to 22-11 on the season with a 12-7 Great American Conference record on the season following the win.

Hagen Barcello led the Rangers offense with four hits, three runs and had two RBIs in the series opener. Chad Green led the team with 3-RBIs in the win. Trevor Stiles finished 3-3 in the afternoon as well, as one of five hitters with at least two hits. The Rangers had eight extra base hits in total.

Garrett DeHaas started the game throwing seven innings only allowing one run while striking out seven before Dawson Toborg threw the final two innings striking out four batters. Overall Rangers pitching struck out 11 Storm hitters.

Both teams went down in order in the first inning before the Rangers struck first in the second inning on a Hagen Barcello solo home run to right field for the early 1-0 lead.

Southeastern struck back in the third inning after having their first hit in the third inning on a double to left field with one out before an RBI single by Thorp tied the game at 1-1.

The Savage Storm pushed a runner in scoring position in the fourth inning but DeHaas worked around the jam and kept the game at 1-1.

Northwestern struck in the fifth inning to regain the lead. The inning started with a Saire single back up the middle. Jacob Wiltshire later in the inning hit an RBI double to right center field, scoring Saire to take a 2-1 lead. Dylan Bradford followed with an RBI triple to take a 3-1 lead before scoring on a Carson Wright ground out extending the lead to 4-1.

The Rangers continued to add on in the fifth inning as Hagen Barcello who led the inning off with a double scored on a Savage Storm throwing error as Northwestern led 5-1. DeHaas threw a scoreless sixth inning holding all momentum on the Rangers side with a perfect sixth inning.

Trevor Stiles led off the inning with a double to right field as the Rangers continued to add on as Wiltshire doubled to left field for back to back doubles to start the inning. Barcello later in the inning hit an RBI single through the left side taking a 7-1 lead over the Storm.

After a single in the seventh inning DeHaas struck out the final two batters of the inning holding a 7-1 lead going into the eighth inning. Saire doubled and Stiles walked leading to a Bradford RBI single scoring Saire an 8-1 lead.

The ninth inning Sachen and Barcello both reached to start the inning leading to a Chad Green home run to left field for a 2-Run home run taking an 11-1 lead over the home team.

Toborg struck out the side in the 8th inning working around two bases runners in the 8th and then struck out the final batter of the game for an 11-1 series opening victory.

The series will conclude Saturday afternoon following a doubleheader against Southeastern starting at 1:00 PM with the second game following.
