BETHANY, OKLAHOMA - Ranger Softball opened the first of a three game series at Southern Nazarene Saturday afternoon as the Crimson Storm used a five run fourth inning to power their way to a 7-1 win over the Lady Rangers.
Northwestern drops to 10-9 on the season with a 2-5 record in the Great American Conference along with a 7-6 road record.Â
Macy Spearman had the Rangers hit in the game going 1-2 as Hannah Howell scored the run driven in by Laney Anderson.Â
The two pitchers traded scoreless innings in the first as Ireland Caro worked around a lead-off single before retiring the next three in order.
Northwestern's offense struck in the second inning after Howell reached on an error before Laney Anderson drove Howell in on a sacrifice fly. Caro threw a scoreless second inning as the Rangers led 1-0 through two innings.
In the third inning as the Rangers looked to extend the lead Macy Spearman picked up a single and a stolen base but was left in scoring position as the Rangers led 1-0 before the Crimson Storm tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a Evans RBI double to center field.Â
Southern Nazarene took the game in the fourth inning after a lead off walk scored two batters later on an RBI triple to right field. Evans then homered in the inning extending the lead to 5-1. Southern Nazarene added one more run on an RBI single after a Ranger error pushing the deficit to 6-1 after four innings.Â
In the fifth inning Southern Nazarene added one more run after a lead-off double came around to score on a throwing error for a 7-1 lead over Northwestern.Â
Southern Nazarene hung on for the six run victory over the Rangers 7-1 to take game one of the series.Â
Northwestern will complete the series on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM. with the second game to follow.Â
