Rangers Drop Series Finale to Arkansas Monticello

MONTICELLO, ARKANSAS - Northwestern Oklahoma State Softball closed out a three game series with the Blossoms of Arkansas Monticello. The Rangers got on the board early but Arkansas Monticello later walked off with a 5-4 victory over the Rangers to win the final game of the series and earn the series win over the Rangers.

Northwestern is now 17-25 on the season with a 7-20 Great American Conference record.

Laney Anderson and Macy Spearman led the team with two hits each while Anderson had a team high 2-RBIs in the game. Rivera and Spearman each had solo home runs for the Rangers.

Northwestern struck first with an early run as Avery Clark had the game's first hit of the day. She later advanced to third on a wild pitch before an RBI single by Laney Anderson gave the Rangers the early 1-0 lead.

Hannah Howell pitched a perfect first inning and did not allow a hit through the first two as the game remained 1-0 into the third when the Rangers extended the lead. Rachel Sherwood stole second getting into scoring position before Anderson delivered her second RBI single of the afternoon for a 2-0 Ranger lead.

However Arkansas Monticello struck back in the bottom of the inning as Cecil hit a lead off home run to make it 2-1 before a single and a wild pitch led to a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 2-2 through three innings of play.

Did not stay tied long as Rosemary Rivera answered back with a lead off home run of her own as the Rangers regained the lead at 3-2. Arkansas Monticello later tied the game in the fifth inning as a double pushed runners to second and third before a single had the game at 3-3.

Arkansas Monticello scored in back to back innings as they took their first lead of the game on a RBI double to take a 4-3 lead late in the game. That lead did not last long though as a lead off home run to tie the game in the seventh inning pushed the game to 4-4.

The Rangers in the bottom of the seventh inning allowed a run on an RBI single to right field to give the Weevils the series win over the Rangers with the 5-4 victory.

Northwestern now has four straight games at home starting with a double header on Tuesday against Fort Hays State before hosting Southern Arkansas over the weekend for a three game series.
