ENID, OKLAHOMA - The Rangers went to Enid for the yearly Hot Dogs and Apple Pie game this year against Southern Nazarene. The Crimson Storm jumped out early with two runs in the first inning and never trailed, going on to win 12-2 over the Rangers in seven innings.
Northwestern falls to 26-13 on the season as Southern Nazarene moves to 12-27.Â
Dylan Bradford led the team with four hits in the game along with a run scored. Chase Hamilton finished the game with two hits in three at bats. Chad Green and Colby Grace each drove in a run for the Rangers.Â
The Crimson Storm jumped out early in the mid-week game as a lead off double came around to score on a 2-RBI triple for Orman as Southern Nazarene led 2-0. The Rangers picked up a hit and a walk in the bottom of the first inning but Southern Nazarene escaped as the game stayed 2-0.Â
A walk and a steal pushed a runner into scoring position for the Crimson Storm but the Rangers escaped with no damage allowed as the game stayed 2-0. Hamilton had a double in the second inning but was left there.Â
Southern Nazarene added one in the third inning as Dias came up with runners on first and second after a walk and hit batter leading to an RBI single for the 3-0 lead.Â
Rangers struck for the first time in the third as Bradford singled to start the inning before Green stepped up after a Carson Wright single, with an RBI double scoring Bradford for the Rangers first run. Grace later hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring the Rangers second run.Â
The Crimson Storm answered the two runs back in the fourth though on a lead off home run to extend the lead to 4-2. The Storm added one more on a Martinez RBI single for a 5-2 lead over the Rangers.Â
Southern Nazarene continued to add on in the fifth inning when the bases were loaded on back to back walks as Southern Nazarene took a 7-2 lead. The Sixth inning Southern Nazarene hit two solo home runs taking a 10-2 lead before closing the game out in the seventh with an RBI single by Orman and an RBI single by Dias for the 12-2 lead over the Rangers.Â
The Crimson Storm sealed the win in the bottom of the inning after a lead off single was retired on a double play for the final score of 12-2.Â
The Rangers will be back in action on April 12th against Arkansas Monticello for a doubleheader to open the series in a battle for first place as both teams are a part of a three way tie at the top of the standings.
