Cali Griffin Named Next Head Coach of Northwestern Rodeo

ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State University Director of Athletics Brad Franz has announced the hiring of Ranger Alum Cali Griffin as the next head men's and women's rodeo coach for the Rangers. Griffin takes over for Stockton Graves, who resigned at the end of April.

"I'm so excited about the opportunity to return to a program and a community that did so much for me," stated Griffin. "I'm honored to have the support of Stockton and everyone else involved in this decision, and know those are big shoes to fill, but excited about the challenge and the trust in me to continue the tradition of winning NWOSU has."

Griffin has been with Fort Scott Community College as the Assistant Rodeo Coach since September of 2022.  She also was the assistant rodeo coach there from 2014-20017 and has trained horses professionally, developing training programs for horses and their owners. Griffin also coached riders correcting horsemanship and roping techniques providing instruction during their lessons.

While at Fort Scott, Griffin was responsible for recruiting, fundraising, and monitoring academics for both rodeo programs. She was in charge of running practices, and promoted the program by running their social media accounts for rodeo with the college.

"I am very excited to bring in Cali to lead our Rodeo Program.  With her knowledge of Northwestern and her experience in coaching at the collegiate level, this is a great opportunity for us to continue to excel in this program.  I look forward to seeing what she does with our student-athletes," stated Northwestern President Dr. Bo Hannaford.

While coaching she has taken multiple teams to the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, WY and is well respected in rodeo circles as a coach.  She will be taking the Fort Scott Community College men's team to the college finals in June, who just won the Central Plains Region.  Also, during her time as a college competitor, she qualified for the CNFR in Breakaway Roping and was a rodeo team member at both Fort Scott and Northwestern.

Before she started coaching for the Northwestern rodeo team, Griffin graduated with her Bachelor's degree from Northwestern and was the assistant coach for the Rangers from 2012-2014. Griffin was a circuit finals qualifier during her rodeo career.

Stated Brad Franz, Northwestern Athletic Director, "Cali is very well thought of in the rodeo industry and is an excellent trainer and coach and has developed winners in all of the college rodeo events.  I am excited for her to take over our program and continuing to build on the success of Stockton Graves.  She is a phenomenal coach and recruiter who wants to win championships.  She will hold her student-athletes accountable in the classroom and push them toward graduation. We are excited to have her leading our program."
