Rangers Fall in Home Opener to the Tigers

ALVA, Oklahoma - Northwestern Oklahoma State football faced Ouachita Baptist Thursday evening for the 2024 season home opener. The Tigers struck early with a touchdown in the opening minutes before closing out the win over the Rangers. 

The Rangers drop to 0-2 on the season while the Tigers improve to 2-0. 

Ouachita Baptist took advantage of a Rangers punt early in the game as Ouachita Baptist followed a 22 yard run into Ranger territory before connecting on a 35 yard touchdown pass to take an early 7-0 lead. The score remained that way through the quarter before extending their lead to 14-0.   

After the Rangers threw an interception Northwestern was able to cause a safety however on the play to cut the deficit to 14-2. Ouachita Baptist scored late in the 2nd quarter right before the halftime break 21-2 after a Eli Livingston 25 yard touchdown pass to AJ Jones. 

The score remained that way into halftime with the Rangers trailing 21-2. 

The opening kickoff of the second half was returned for a touchdown for a 28-2 Tigers lead. 

The Rangers were led in passing by Beck Moss with a total of 61 yards on 12 completions. His leading receiver on the evening was Mark Zamora with 24 yards followed by Travis Romar with 19. 

Defensively Northwestern was led in tackles by Coby Tillman with 10 including a tackle for loss. Wilson Cal was second with five. Bashu Delco had an interception in the evening, his first one of the season. 

The Tigers were led by Eli Livingston with 171 yards and three touchdowns while Kendel Givens had 147 yards rushing and a touchdown. 

Ouachita Baptist won the game by a final score of 56-2 over the Rangers Thursday evening. 

Northwestern will return to action on Saturday September 21st in Bethany, Oklahoma taking on Southern Nazarene.
