ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Volleyball continued their full week at home by closing it with two more victories as the Rangers have now won four straight matches and 12 consecutive sets.
The Rangers improved to 7-5 on the season following a sweep in the Northwestern tournament this weekend.
Northwestern jumped out early on William Jewell after the set was tied 2-2 Hennesys Lalane started a 4-0 run as the Rangers built their first lead at 8-3 after three straight kills by the Rangers. Lalane picked up a quick 2-0 run after a kill followed by her own service ace,as the lead was extended to 12-5. The Rangers, continuing to keep the aggressiveness, had a kill by Macy Shreffler followed by a Shreffler block with Ivanny Blackwood for a 15-6 lead. The lead reached double digits following three straight from the Rangers on kills by Macy Shreffler and Ece Ozdemir. The Rangers closed on a 5-1 run on kills by Jimenez and Blackwood, the set was finished off by Erika Asencio Soriano for the 25-15 victory.
Set two Macy Shreffler started the set with a kill taking the early 1-0 advantage over the Cardinals. Mariela Jimenez and Ece Ozdemir had each had blocks to keep the Rangers out in front before a WIlliam Jewell run tying the set at 8-8 before even taking the lead at 10-8. The Rangers were trailing 15-13 before a 7-1 run started by Ozdemir and Jimenez to tie the set at 16-16 before the Rangers jumped to a 20-16 lead following a service ace by Jimenez. Northwestern continued to control the set as the Rangers finished off the set with the final two points taking a 25-20 set victory over the Cardinals following kills by Shreffler and Ozdemir.
After the teams traded points early tied 2-2, Northwestern went on a 10-0 run started by a Erika Asencio Soriano kill. The run featured three blocks and four kills as the Rangers were leading 12-2 following the service ace by Karysn Smith. The Rangers continued to control the match, maintaining the double digit lead in the set at 19-8 after a service ace by Lalane. A block by Ece Ozdemir and Cameryn Barclay sealed the match win 3-0 over the Cardinals.
MATCH 2:
The second match of the day the Rangers were the first to the lead after an attack error. The two teams traded points in the early going as the set was tied 5-5 before a service ace by Ozdemir put the Rangers in front.This started a 5-0 run for the home team as the Rangers built a 12-6 lead following a kill by Erika Asencio Soriano. The Rangers were holding a seven point lead when Mariela Jimenez started a 5-0 run as two kills and three Blue Jays errors had the Rangers out in front 23-12. Ozge Yavuz fired off a kill for the 25-14 set victory for the Rangers and 1-0 match lead.
In set two Tabor pushed a 3-0 run across to take an early 3-2 lead but Ozdemir quickly tied the set 3-3. Tabor then went on 5-0 to take a 10-6 lead over the Rangers. Ozge Yavuz started the Rangers run to get back in the set with a kill followed by a Shreffler kill and block from Yavuz as the Rangers reclaimed an 11-10 advantage. Later set two was tied 16-16 before Jimeenz started the next Rangers run pushing the lead to 20-16 as Northwestern never trailed again in the set. Northwestern went to grab the set two victory 25-20 over the Blue Jays and earned a 2-0 match lead.
Northwestern in the third and final set jumped out to a 5-2 advantage as a Service ace by Brianda Diaz gave the Rangers the lead at the first of the set. Tabor battled back to tie the set at 6-6 before the Rangers reclaimed the lead on kills by Asencio Soriano and Ozdemir. Tabor regained their early lead at 12-10. Northwestern had a block from Blackwood and Shreffler to tie the set at 12. The set remained tied through 16-16 when the Rangers found separation at 21-17 following a 4-0 run on two kills by Jimenez. Blackwood had the final three kills of the match for the Rangers taking the set 25-21 and the 3-0 match win.
Northwestern will be back in action on the road Tuesday September 24th in Bethany, Oklahoma against Southern Nazarene.
