Rangers Strong Second Half Leads to Fourth Straight Win

ADA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State used a strong second half comeback to take a win at East Central and extend the win streak to four games. Rangers out scored the Tigers 39-30 in the second half, helping lead to road victory.

The Rangers improve to 10-8 on the season with a 7-5 conference record following the win as East Central falls to 7-11 on the year with a 4-8 GAC record. 

Northwestern had three players in double figures led by Camron McDowell scoring 32 points on 10-19 shooting, knocking down five three pointers, while adding seven steals, six rebounds, and four assists. Justin Norris and DaRaun Clark each scored 11 points each hitting three 3-pointers. Kabeya Tshibangu led the Rangers with 10 rebounds while adding eight points, two blocks, and a steal. 

The two teams traded three pointers to start the game as McDowell hit his first three pointer in the opening second before Ezedinma answered. The Tigers extended to a 10-4 lead before out of a timeout the Rangers hit back to back three pointers to tie the game at 10 before McDowell continued the run stretching the Rangers run to 11-0 for the 15-10 lead with 15:27 left in the opening half. East Central answered with six straight to take the lead back before Max Alexander picked up a steal leading to a fastbreak layup to regain the lead with 10:41 left in the half. 

Following a Logan Phillips foul shot the game was locked at 19-19 with nine minutes remaining in the half, before an 8-0 home team run including two three pointers pushed the Tigers in front 27-19. Jackson Feely hit a three pointer to push the Rangers back within four at 32-28. The two teams following a slam dunk by Tshibangu held one another scoreless the rest of the half in the final two minutes as East Central held a 36-32 lead over the Rangers. 

As the Rangers allowed a first basket in the second half the team answered though with a 7-0 run to take a 39-38 lead back after creating three straight turnovers. It was Tshibangu and DaRaun Clark hitting back shots before a McDowell triple pushed Northwestern in front 39-38 with 18:30 left in the game. 

The Rangers trailed 55-50 with 13:14 left in the game before Clark came up big hitting back to back three pointers taking the lead back at 56-55. The Rangers never trailed again after the Clark three pointer. The game was tied at 56-56, before the Rangers went on an 8-0 run scoring eight straight to take a 64-56 lead over the Tigers capitalized by a fast break dunk by Tshibangu.

East Central could only get as close as four late in the game with about four minutes left before Norris and Alexander pushed the lead back to eight points at 68-60. The Rangers then closed out the 71-66 victory following the three pointer by McDowell which at the time pushed the lead to nine. 

The Rangers completed their fourth straight win on Saturday afternoon 71-66. 

Northwestern will return to action on Thursday afternoon in Searcy, Arkansas facing Harding Bisons. The Rangers are scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 PM.
