ALVA, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State women's basketball team defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State, 104-46, on Saturday afternoon. The victory moves the Lady Rangers to 5-1 on the season.
The Lady Rangers got off to a quick start by opening the game on a 9-0 run with buckets from
Kira Bass,
Jaida Shipp, and
Catyn Graham. Bass continued to hammer the Aggies from the free throw line, as she made seven consecutive free throws to go on a personal 7-0 run in the middle of the first quarter. After the first quarter, Bass had as many points as the Aggies, and Northwestern had a 31-9 lead.
In the second quarter, the Lady Rangers continued to expand the lead behind threes from Graham and
Conley Cayot, while Bass and Shipp continued to dominate in the paint. At the end of the first half, Northwestern led 56-20.
The Northwestern lead continued to balloon in the second half, as Cayot knocked down four of her five threes for the game in the first four minutes of the third quarter expand the lead to 42. The Lady Ranger bench took over from there, as
Jamie Molina and
Madison Denison scored the next seven points to push Northwestern's advantage to 45. Northwestern capped the third quarter with an 8-1 run with buckets from Denison,
Camille Pritchard, and a three-pointer from
Anna Eldridge to give the Lady Rangers an 86-34 lead.
The fourth quarter was much of the same, as the Lady Rangers scored the first 14 points of the quarter, with
Ella Porter and
Emma Jo Locks joining in on the scoring. After a pair of made free throws from Denison, the Lady Rangers held a 66-point lead over the Aggies. Oklahoma Panhandle State cut into the deficit late into the game, but the Lady Rangers prevailed, 104-46, in a game where 13 different Lady Rangers scored.
Bass led the Lady Rangers in scoring with 18 points, while Denison led in rebounds with 10 and scored 12 points for her second double-double of the season. Denison also led in assists with four, while
Summya Adigun also had four. Porter led the Lady Rangers in steals with four, while Denison led in blocks with two.
Northwestern easily won the battle inside the paint with 54 points in the paint compared to Oklahoma Panhandle State's 14, and the Lady Rangers scored 61 points off 38 Aggies turnovers. This is the second time that the Lady Rangers scored 100 points or more this season, making it the first time in two seasons that they had multiple 100-point games.
The Lady Rangers will be back in action on Dec. 4, when they travel to Russellville, Arkansas to take on Arkansas Tech at 5:30 p.m.
