Rangers Take Down Boll Weevils for Second Win of Season

ALVA, OKLA. - The Northwestern Oklahoma State football team defeated the Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils 40-7. Northwestern used three first half touchdowns that included a special teams touchdown to earn their second win of the season.

The first touchdown on the board came with five minutes left in the first quarter by way of the Northwestern special teams unit. Rayshun Callahan returned a blocked punt 30-yards to the end zone to give the Rangers a 7-0 lead with five minutes left in the first quarter.

Northwestern started the second quarter with a 2-yard rushing touchdown by Ezequiel Luna extending the lead to 13-0. The Rangers would put together another scoring drive that ended with a Caleb Deal 18-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Taylor putting the Rangers up 20-0. Northwestern would take that lead into the halftime locker room.

The Ranger defense recovered and returned a bad snap by Monticello, setting the offense up in Boll Weevil territory midway through the third quarter. Northwestern could not find the end zone but did manage to come away with a field goal. Arkansas-Monticello put their first points on the board on the ensuing drive to cut the Northwestern lead to 23-7.

Northwestern began the fourth quarter adding a field goal to their total bringing the score to 26-7 ending a 13 play drive that started in the final few minutes of the third frame. After the Ranger defense forced a turnover on downs Northwestern needed just one play on the ensuing drive, as Deal found Bailee Davenport for a 25-yard touchdown pass giving the Rangers a 33-7 lead early in the fourth quarter.

The Rangers added one more touchdown in the form of a Jayden Bridges 2-yard rush midway through the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 40-7.
