DURANT, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State women's basketball team defeated Southeastern, 64-55, on Wednesday night. The win moves the Lady Rangers to 8-1 on the season and 3-0 in Great American Conference play.
The Lady Rangers got off to a slow start, as Southeastern quickly jumped out to a 9-2 lead within the first three minutes of the game. Northwestern immediately clawed back behind six straight points from
Kira Bass to cut the Savage Storm lead to one before
Summya Adigun scored on back-to-back possessions to give the Lady Rangers the lead, 13-11.
Conley Cayot and
Camille Pritchard added to the 15-2 run to put Northwestern up 17-11 at the end of the first quarter.
Northwestern's lead continued to grow in the second quarter, as Bass,
Catyn Graham, and
Madison Denison scored the first eight points of the quarter for the Lady Rangers to give Northwestern a 10-point advantage. The Lady Rangers and Savage Storm continued to trade baskets, giving Northwestern a 31-22 lead at the end of the first half.
Bass continued to attack the paint in the second half, as she scored the first seven points of the third quarter from three layups and a free throw to keep the Savage Storm from cutting the lead down to a single possession. Southeastern cut the deficit to five with 4:57 remaining in the quarter, but the Lady Rangers responded with a 6-0 run to head into the fourth quarter with their largest lead of the game, 50-38.
The Lady Rangers continued to bombard inside, as both Bass and
Jaida Shipp made layups to put Northwestern up by 16 with 7:25 to go in the game. The Savage Storm tried to make a push midway through the quarter, but a three-pointer from Graham slammed the door on the Southeastern comeback, as the Lady Rangers won, 64-55.
Bass led the Lady Rangers in scoring and rebounds by picking up her second double-double of the season with 26 points and 10 boards. Shipp and Pritchard led in assists with three each, while three different Lady Rangers each had two steals.
The Lady Rangers will be back in action on Dec. 13, when they return to Percefull Fieldhouse to take on East Central University at 1 p.m.
