Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Rangers Drop GAC Opener to Hot Shooting Wonderboys

RUSSELLVILLE, ARK.  - The Northwestern Oklahoma State men's basketball team fell to Arkansas Tech 77-58. The Rangers could not overcome an early Arkansas Tech surge, despite getting a double double performance from Robbie Armbrester who recorded 17 points and 12 rebounds.

The first four minutes were tightly contested as neither side gave up anything defensively, until Cam'ron Brown was able to get a lay up to fall for the first points of the game two minutes into the contest. From there the Wonderboys took over, tying the game at 4 before going on a 5-0 run to lead 7-4 at the first media timeout.

Arkansas Tech started to pull away from there, going up by as many as nine midway through the period. The Rangers managed to get the lead down to seven points coming out of the second media timeout of the half. That's as low as it would get as the Wonderboys stretched the lead to double digits, going up by 20 at the eight minute media timeout. Northwestern battled back getting points off multiple Arkansas Tech turnovers, but found themselves going into the halftime break down 48-25.

The Wonderboys got the lead up to as much as 28 points to start the second half, before the Rangers were able to cut into it and get it down to 23 before the sixteen minute media timeout. Northwestern found a little momentum midway through the half from Armbrester who recorded nearly half of the Rangers points as they continued to close the gap at the third media timeout of the period.

Northwestern had several good opportunities to score throughout the rest of the period, and allowed just thirty points in the second half. However, they could not get the Wonderboy lead to less than 20 in the half.

Northwestern will be back in action on Saturday, December 7th at 7:30 p.m. as they travel to Searcy, Arkansas to take on Harding.
