Rangers Drop Thursday Game Split Season Series with Bulldogs

WEATHERFORD, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State fell Thursday evening to Southwestern Oklahoma State to split the season series in the regular season. Southwestern held a three point halftime lead before their largest lead at 11 before closing out the 83-75 victory.

Northwestern falls to 12-11 on the season with a 9-8 GAC record. Southwestern Oklahoma State improves to 11-11 on the year with a 8-9 GAC mark.

Rangers led by Camron McDowell with 35 points hitting five three pointers followed by Max Alexander with 25 points, only two Rangers in double figures.

Camron McDowell gave the Rangers their first lead of the night after hitting a three pointer for the early 3-2 lead. Southwestern scored the next six points before McDowell scored the opening eight points of the game for the Rangers to tie the score at 8-8. Alexander was the next Ranger to score with a jump shot to keep the game even at the 15 minute mark in the half.

The duo for the Rangers scored the first 14 points for the Rangers before a tip-in by Liam Canty pushed the Rangers back in front at 16-15 with 12 minutes to play. Rangers' run continued after an Alexander running jump shot for the 20-17 lead for the Rangers. McDowell followed by hitting a three pointer for the 23-19 but Southwestern responded with six straight taking a 25-23 lead over the Rangers.

Southwestern used their defense to take a 36-30 lead late into the half before a DaRaun Clark drilled a three pointer as the Rangers trailed 36-33 after one half of play to the Bulldogs.

Elijah Williams started the scoring in the second half as Elijah Williams followed by a Eli Al-Debaran put the Bulldogs up by eight. The lead stayed the way until a couple of foul shots pushed Southwestern lead to 10 points, hitting double digits for the first time of the night.  McDowell looked to bring the Rangers back in the game scoring the next six points for the Rangers before a Kabeya Tshibangu layup cut the Ranger deficit to seven. Northwestern got as close as six at the eight minute mark at 60-54 after a layup from Logan Phillips.

However with the Rangers down six a couple different times as McDowell hit a three pointer to keep there with 6:49 left in the game. The Rangers were able to cut the game to as close as four points at 67-63 before Kray Rogers hit back to back three pointers to send the game back to 10 points at 73-63. The Bulldogs closed out the 83-75 victory over the Rangers splitting the season series.

Northwestern returns home for the game Saturday afternoon against Oklahoma Baptist scheduled for a 3:00 PM tip-off. Admission into the game will be free for anyone who brings two items to donate for the food drive.
