Rangers Complete Sweep over East Central with Doubleheader Wins

ADA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Baseball closed out their three game series with East Central as the Rangers completed the three game sweep. Northwestern battled back in game both games to take a 6-4 win and a 4-2 victory over the Tigers.

Northwestern improves to 10-8 on the season with a 3-6 conference record as East Central falls to 3-13 on the year. 

GAME ONE: 

The Rangers were led in the opening game by Colby Grace with two hits and an RBI, as Gavin Mendoza had a team high two hits. Connor Green led the team with a 2-RBI day in the game. 

East Central struck first after the Tigers worked around a first inning bases loaded jam then scored two runs on a 2-RBI single scoring Akers and Sherrell. This was followed by a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 3-0. 

The score remained that way into the fourth inning after two straight walks led to an RBI double by Gavin Mendoza cutting the deficit to 3-1. Bradford drove in a run with an RBI groundout, before Grace pushed the Rangers in front with a 2-RBI single taking a 4-3 lead over the Tigers as Hamilton and Mendoza scored. 

Northwestern looked to extend the lead before East Central worked around two singles in the inning. 

The game stayed 4-3 into the eighth inning when Mendoza hit a double to start the rally before a walk leading to a 2-RBI single by Connor Green for the 6-3 lead over the Tigers. 

East Central got one run back in the 8th inning on an RBI single by Fernandez scoring a run cutting the Ranger deficit to 6-4 but the Rangers escaped further damage. 

In the ninth inning Logan Sandoval worked around a single to close out the 6-4 win and the series victory over East Central. Will Kates threw 7 ? innings allowing three earned runs and striking out seven earning the win, as Sandoval got his first save of the year with three strikeouts. 

GAME TWO: 

Connor Green and Hagen Barcello led the team with two hits in the second game, as Barcello had a team high of a 3-RBI game. 

Each team scored in the first inning as the Rangers started with Bradford reaching and stealing a base leading to a Green RBI double to left field, for the early 1-0 lead. East Central had two straight singles leading to a 2-RBI double for the 2-1 lead at the end of the first inning. 

In the second inning both teams worked around base runners keeping the game at 2-1. Northwestern had a chance to tie the game in the fourth inning loading the bases with one out but East Central got back to back strikeouts to close out the inning. 

The fifth inning is where the Rangers tied the game on a Hagen Barcello single after back to back walks the single scored Grace to tie the game at 2-2. 

Northwestern took the lead in the seventh inning after a single by Green led to a Barcello 2-run home run to take a 4-2 lead. 

Colby Mitchell closed out the win in the seventh picking up two strikeouts earning the save after Jacob Wiltshire went six innings striking out 10 earning the win. 

The Rangers closed out the series sweep over the East Central Tigers after the doubleheader victories. Northwestern is on the road Tuesday against Rogers State before returning home for a conference series against Southeastern.
