ALVA, OKLAHOMA - The Ranger Softball team battled Arkansas Monticello Saturday afternoon as the teams went three scoreless innings before trading leads late in the game. It took a three-run seventh inning for the Rangers to complete the walk-off win over the Cotton Blossoms 6-5.
The Rangers improve to 8-19 on the season with a 5-12 Great American Conference record, while Arkansas Monticello falls to 13-18 on the season.Â
The Northwestern offense was led by Kaitlyn Corn and Jadyn Muns with three hits each in the game. Rosemary Rivera had a team-high with a 2-RBI game. Rachel Sherwood, Jadyn Muns, Makanalei Lapera, and Delaynie Esterly all drove in a run.Â
Madelyn Cason struck out for hitters in six innings of work before Chloe Brown pitched in the seventh inning earning her fourth win of the season.Â
Northwestern put the first two runners of the inning on after a Spearman single followed by an Avery Clark walk but Arkansas Monticello found their way out of the inning tied 0-0. It was a pitching duel to start the game 0-0 through the opening three innings.Â
It was in the fourth inning when the Rangers struck first. A Corn single to start the inning led to an RBI triple by Muns for the 1-0 lead for the Rangers through four innings of play.Â
Rachel Sherwood continued the Ranger's momentum in the fifth inning after an Arkansas Monticello error, Rachel Sherwood hit an RBI single to take a 2-0 lead over the Cotton Blossoms.
In the sixth inning though Arkansas Monticello came back to tie the game after a walk and single led to a 2-RBI triple for Collins to even the score at 2-2.Â
Northwestern answered back quickly in the home half of the inning to regain the lead. Muns reached base safely before an RBI single by Esterly gave the Rangers the 3-2 lead in the sixth inning.Â
Arkansas Monticello counted for three runs in the seventh inning started by an RBI single by Bonicelli scoring Sexton. This led to a 2-RBI single by Collins for the 5-3 lead over the Rangers.Â
The bottom of the seventh inning started with two straight singles, one by Sherwood and Corn. This led to Rosemary River delivering the game tying hit with a 2-RBI double to left field. After the Rangers loaded the bases this was followed by a game winning walk-off RBI walk for Lapera and a 6-5 Ranger victory to take the series over Arkansas Monticello.
Northwestern returns to action on March 28th &29th against Southern Nazarene for a three game home series against the Crimson Storm one Friday and two Saturday.
