Ranger Baseball Completes Season Sweep over Newman

WICHITA, KANSAS - Northwestern Oklahoma State concluded the season series with the Newman Jets on Tuesday afternoon. The Rangers completed the season sweep after a six run third inning pushed the Rangers past the Jets 12-2 victory.

The Rangers improved to 17-14 on the season following the victory.

Northwestern was led by Carson Wright in hits with three on the afternoon, and three runs scored while driving in one. Gavin Mendoza finished the game with a six RBI game, with a grand slam. Kaden Spray threw five innings earning his second win of the season.

The game started with a Carson Wright double and a Connor Green single setting up runners on the corners before a Chad Green double pushed the Rangers in front 1-0 as Wright scored. Mendoza followed with an RBI groundout, followed by a Barcello driving in a run on a Newman error for the early 3-0 lead. 

Newman answered back with two runs in the bottom of the 1st inning on a 2-RBI single as the Rangers led 3-2 after the first inning. 

The Rangers extended the lead in the second inning after loading the bases in the inning Mendoza drew a walk forcing in Wright for the 4-2 lead. The third inning was the big inning for the Rangers as Colby Grace led the inning off with a solo home run for the 5-2 lead. With a 6-2 lead the Rangers then loaded the bases before a Gavin Mendoza grand slam cleared the bases and gave Northwestern the 10-2 lead. 

Newman put a runner in scoring position after a steal and a stolen base but Spray worked around the jam keeping the game at 10-2. 

The Rangers scored their final runs in the 4th inning as Chase Hamilton scored on a Newman balk for the 11-2 lead before Carson Wright hit an RBI single for the 12-2 lead over the Jets.

A double play in the bottom of the fifth inning helped the Rangers keep the 10 run lead in the fifth. In the sixth inning Newman loaded the bases but the Rangers worked around the jam keeping the game at 12-2 after Holzer got a ground out. 

Matthew Potts entered the game closing out the win 12-2 over Newman and completing the season sweep over the Jets. 

Northwestern is on the road over the weekend against Southern Nazarene for a three game series starting on Friday. First pitched on Friday, March 28th is scheduled for 2:00 PM before a doubleheader Saturday to close out the series.
