Ranger Softball Comeback Bid Falls Short versus Southern Nazarene

ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers lost the first of three games in the series against Southern Nazarene University on Friday evening 7-5. The Crimson Storm jumped out early with a first inning run before using a four run second inning to help extend the lead before closing out the win over the Rangers.

This puts the Rangers at 9-21 overall for this season and a 5-13 conference record. Southern Nazarene is now 20-13 with an 11-7 GAC record.

Rosemary Rivera led the Lady Rangers with three hits and a 2-RBI game while scoring two runs. Jadyn Muns had two hits of her own. Rachel Sherwood and Madeline Pack drove in a run each.

Southern Nazarene started with the lead, bringing a run in at the top of the first after a single and a stolen base setup a runner in scoring position before an RBI single scored the game's first run. While the Rangers had a hit by Jadyn Muns, Northwestern was not able to answer back.

The Crimson Storm extended the lead in the second inning with four runs after loading the bases. A passed ball allowed the first run of the inning. A sacrifice fly followed by an RBI single pushed the Crimson Storm lead to 4-0, before one more RBI single had the visitors in front 5-0.

In the bottom of the second inning the Rangers were able to get one run back as Rosemary Rivera hit a solo home run to left field cutting the Ranger deficit to 5-1.

In the third inning, the Rangers were able to hold the Crimson Storm with three up and three down and add another run to cut the deficit to 5-2 when Rachel Sherwood hit a double to left center and brought Macy Spearman home.

The score then remained 5-2 until the fifth inning when Southern Nazarene had two more runs, making the score 7-2 after a 2-RBI double by Evans. The Lady Rangers did not allow the Storm to score in the sixth inning before scoring three runs. Rivera hit an RBI single, scoring Devynn Raile. Pack then delivered an RBI single and a second run, scoring on an error on the play to trail 7-5.

In the seventh and final inning, the Rangers had a double by Muns but a fly out and strike out, and the comeback by the Rangers fell short. Southern Nazarene sealed the 7-5 win over the Rangers.
