Muns Walk-Off Home Run Completes Comeback for Doubleheader Sweep Over the Jets

ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State closed out the season series with the Newman Jets on Tuesday afternoon, sweeping the doubleheader at home. The Rangers used comebacks in both games. Northwestern used a five and a six run inning to comeback and win game one, before a walk-off home run in game two.

The Rangers improve to 12-30 on the season following the two wins, as Newman drops to 7-37 for the year.

GAME ONE:

Kaitlyn Corn led the team with a four-hit and four RBI performance in the game. Rachel Sherwood added three hits. Rosemary Rivera had a tie for the team high with a 4-RBI game. Avery Clark drove in three.

Madelyn Cason pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs, and striking out three, earning the win for the Rangers.

The game started in favor of the Jets after the visitors jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, scoring five first inning runs after two RBI singles before an RBI double pushed the Jets ahead.

Northwestern answered back with two runs in the first inning after a single and a walk set up the 2-RBI double by Corn to get the Rangers on the board.

Newman answered the Rangers though in the second inning adding three runs as a Borja RBI triple followed by an RBI single had Newman out in front extending the Jets lead.

The Rangers quickly got back in the game, though with a five-run third inning cutting the deficit down to one. After back-to-back singles to start the inning, setting up a 2-RBI double by Clark to bring the Rangers down 8-4. Rivera pushed across a run before a Muns sacrifice fly had the Rangers down 8-7 through three innings.

A scoreless fourth and fifth inning for Newman set up the next big inning. The Rangers took the team's first lead of the game after Clark drove in the tying run, leading to a Corn 2-RBI single to left field for the 10-8 lead. Rosemary Rivera then delivered the big blast with a three-run home run to left center to push the Ranger lead to 13-8.

The Rangers added one more run in the sixth inning after two walks led to a Macry Spearman RBI double to left center field, giving the Rangers a 14-8 lead.

Cason then closed out the victory for the Rangers, retiring the side in order after a leadoff strike out led to the final out and a 14-8 game one victory.

GAME TWO:

The Rangers were led in hits by three players, each with two in the game: Rachel Sherwood, Kaitlyn Corn, and Rosemary Rivera. Jadyn Muns led the team with a 3-RBI game after delivering the walk-off home run.

Northwestern struck first in the second game after a walk and a stolen base led to an RBI single by Corn for the early 1-0 lead. She was followed by an RBI double to left field by Rivera, scoring Corn and the 2-0 first inning lead.

Chloe Brown, the Ranger starting pitcher, retired the Jets in order to keep the game at 2-0 before the Rangers extended the lead in the bottom of the inning. A walk to start the inning led to a Rachel Sherwood RBI double for the 3-0 lead before Sherwood scored on a Spearman hit.
