ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State made it six straight wins after closing out the victory over the Washburn Ichabods. The Rangers used a five run third inning to take the first lead which the Rangers led the rest of the way.
Northwestern improves to 22-14 on the season while Washburn falls to 17-17.Â
This is the sixth striaght game the Ranger offense has scored double digits of at least 10 runs. Colby Grace and Chase Gordon led the way for the Rangers with four hits each in the win. Grace had a game high 7-RBIs in the afternoon along with three runs scored. Chad Green and Dylan Bradford had two hits each.Â
Kaden Spray started the game throwing 3 ? innings, striking out four. Jacob Shaw earned the win throwing 2 ? innings. Dawson Toborg pitched the final inning earning his second save of the season.
Washburn struck first with four runs in the opening two innings. The Ichabods had a leadoff home run by Duhon for the early 1-0 lead. Bruce followed in the second inning with a 2-run home run before the Ichabods took a 4-0 lead after their first two at bats.Â
In the bottom of the second inning Gavin Mendoza led off with a walk one of his three in the afternoon. Colby Grace drove in his first of seven runs to score the Rangers first run as Northwestern trailed 4-1. Shaffer later drove in a second run on a sacrifice bunt to cut the deficit in half.Â
Northwestern offense scored five runs in the third inning to take the Rangers first lead at 7-4. The Rangers loaded the bases before Grace delivered with a grand slam clearing the bases and giving the Rangers a 6-4 lead. Chase Gordon, and Harley Shaffer hit back to back singles before Carson Wright hit an RBI single for a 7-4 lead after three innings.
In the fourth inning Chad Green led off with a single before Grace hit his second home run of the afternoon, this time a 2-run home run giving the Rangers a 9-4 lead. The Rangers added one more run on an RBI single by Dylan Bradford scoring Gordon.
The score remained 10-4 into the sixth inning when Washburn added one more run on a leadoff solo home run as the Ranger lead was cut to 10-5. In the seventh inning a single and walk set up a ground out to first base which forced in a run for the RBI groundout.
Washburn was able to add one more run in the ninth inning before Dawson Toborg entered the game pitching the final three outs of the game to seal the 10-7 win and earn his second save of the season.Â
Northwestern returns to conference play on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader against Oklahoma Baptist. The series is scheduled for a 2:00 PM opener against the Bison before closing the series with a single game Monday at 1:00 PM.
