Rangers Close Home Schedule with Two Against Southwestern

ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern closed out the home portion of the 2025 schedule with a doubleheader against Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Bulldogs took both games after coming back in game one with a three-run fifth inning. Southwestern used a three-run third inning after the Rangers tied the game to win game two.

The Rangers fall to 13-34 on the season as Southwestern Oklahoma State improves to 20-23.

GAME ONE:

Jadyn Muns led the Rangers in game one with two hits while driving in two runs. Makanalei Lapera had a hit, a run scored, and drove in one run. 

Southwestern Oklahoma State struck first with a run in the top of the 1st inning after a one-out triple came around to score on a ground out by Southwestern for the early 1-0 lead. Kathryn Jones in the 1st inning struck out two. 

The Bulldogs were able to extend their lead in the 2nd inning after a single led to an RBI triple.

Northwestern answered back in the home half of the second inning with a four-run inning, taking the Rangers' first lead of the game. Started with a walk and a single for the Rangers before a Lapera RBI single put the Rangers on the board, trailing 2-1. 

Muns followed by delivering a 2-RBI single to right field giving the Rangers a 3-2 lead. Lapera made it 4-2 in favor of the Rangers scoring on a pass ball. 

Jones pitched a shutdown inning in the third, keeping the Rangers in front 4-2. The game changed in the fifth inning when Southwestern was able to retake the lead with a three-run inning.

The inning started with a burn single before an error allowed the third run to score, before an RBI single tied the game at 4-4. Boline then followed with a sacrifice fly to left field to take a 5-4 lead over the Rangers.

Southwestern added one more in the seventh inning after a walk led to an RBI triple for the 6-4 lead over the Rangers. 

Southwestern was able to close out the 6-4 victory over the Rangers in game one of the afternoon. Northwestern sent the tying run to the plate after a leadoff single but was unable to score. 

GAME TWO:

Jadyn Muns and Macy Spearman led the team with two hits each. Rachel Sherwood, Avery Clark, and Makanalei Lapera each drove in a run in the game.

Southwestern Oklahoma State opened the scoring with a double by Hewitt to lead off the game, but a Hook double scored the game's first run. Lusk followed with an RBI double for back-to-back doubles and a 2-0 Bulldog lead. 

The Rangers were able to answer back with one run in the bottom of the inning on a solo home run from Rachel Sherwood, cutting the Rangers' deficit in half at 2-1.

After Southwestern was retired in order the Rangers tied the game in the second inning on a Lapera RBI single. Spearman led off the inning with a single to left center before scoring in the inning for the 2-2 game. 

In the top of the third inning, though, Southwestern was able to answer back after a leadoff triple came around to score on a McMahon RBI single back up the middle to give Southwestern a 3-2 lead. The Bulldogs had two more runners cross the plate in the inning on two more RBI singles and a 5-2 lead. 

The game stayed 5-2 into the top of the sixth inning when a leadoff single followed by a double led to a three run home run and an 8-2 Southwestern lead.

The Rangers in the bottom of the inning were able to get one run back after a single and walk led to an RBI double to left field by Avery Clark scoring Muns. Southwestern ended the Rangers rally and closed out the 8-3 victory. 

Northwestern Oklahoma State will travel to Harding for the final series of the season for a three-game set in Searcy, Arkansas, against the Bisons.
